Old Rectory Retreat Westport - Olde KitchenHouse

THE OLDE KITCHENHOUSE is one of two apartments at The Old Rectory Retreat. Quirky, beautiful and much loved, this is not a holiday rental place but a home we sometimes share with others. We offer atmosphere and the joy of age. We are a small extended family group living around the Old Rectory - built in 1852 and set among trees, with a stream running between our gardens. A house of 170 years age is not a blemish free space! We're in Knappagh, 3 miles from beautiful Westport town. The space The Olde KitchenHouse at The Old Rectory Retreat is one of the two apartments into which the house is now divided. As you might guess, its' hub is the old kitchen and livingroom of the original house. The large main room has a big comfortable sofa as well as dining table and kitchen area with wicker armchairs and wooden island and an always on Aga cooker. (there's also a double ringed gas hob for those who prefer their cooking fast). There is a sunroom at the entrance which also has a small sofa, table and rocking chair. Off this is a utility room and downstairs toilet. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double, one either double or single, each with a writing desk and easy chair. These rooms share a small wet room- shower room cum toilet. We realize this would not suit everyone but also feel it's a small concession for the other amenities, for the charm and beauty of the place. There is a small lovely garden, entirely private, to one side. A terraced area to the front is also dedicated to the OldeKitchenHouse. The remaining front and riverside gardens are common areas. There is also a garden to the rere which is private to the Churchside apartment . GENERAL Different members of an extended family live and work in the various homes set around the land. Our aim is to create a space for anyone looking for time out in a welcoming home from home, a base to explore beautiful Mayo and Clew Bay or find a quiet place in which to pursue creative work . We all share an interest in writing and music and feel our place is a quiet and inspirational environment. Parties and loud noise are not welcome. Unfortunately it's not a suitable environment for younger children. The stairs are steep and open tread. There is a steep hill beside the house and the stream across on the other side of the driveway is not fenced. In the next door apartment there is a dog and a cat who at other times of the year would be in the KitchenHouse. We sometimes have chickens at some distance from the house. Guest access Guests at the Olde KitchenHouse have a private garden beside them plus a patio . The other front and Riverside gardens are communal spaces. The rere garden is private to the Churchside apartment. Either myself, Róisín, or Mick at Churchside are available and happy to answer any questions, deal with any difficulties or just chat.
