A 35‑minute drive from Tórshavn. Groceries and fuel are nearby. Unwind on the terrace or enjoy a glass of wine by the stove after a day of exploring. The space The house is an authentic Faroese home from the 1870s, carrying the quiet charm of traditional village life. It has two floors, central heating in every room, and Wi‑Fi throughout. The old wooden beams are low in places — a rustic detail from another time — so taller guests should take care. On the ground floor you’ll find a welcoming kitchen and a cosy living room, each with its own wood‑burning stove. There is a bathroom with toilet and shower, a double bedroom, and a single room with bunk beds. The upper floor is open and peaceful, with a bedroom/office area at the south end containing two single beds. The main bedroom opens directly onto the garden terrace, where you can step outside and enjoy the stillness of the valley and the gentle sound of the faroese nature. Guest access Funningur is the perfect retreat and a beautiful base for exploring Streymoy and the entire northeast of the Faroe Islands, yet still only a short drive from the subsea tunnel to Tórshavn. The village rests in a saga‑like valley, where the mountains rise steeply on both sides and the fjord opens quietly toward the sea. The views here are astonishing — shifting light, deep colours, and a sense of calm that’s hard to find elsewhere. One of the valley’s greatest gifts is its peacefulness. There is easy access, but no traffic passing through, making Funningur ideal for an authentic and undisturbed Faroese experience. You’re close to some of the most spectacular scenery in the islands, and the locals are warm and welcoming. From the pier you can even take a refreshing dip in the cold Atlantic, a favourite ritual for many who visit. Other things to note We highly recommend having a car when staying in Funningur, as bus connections are limited. Getting around is much easier with your own transport, and it lets you explore the area at your own pace.
