We are located on the Navajo American Indian Reservation. Yá'át'ééh (Hello in Navajo). A traditional Navajo earth and cedar log Hogan set in the outstanding natural beauty of the Navajo nation. To the Navajo a Hogan is first and foremost the traditional dwelling - a home. But, it is also the center of Navajo ceremonial activity. It is a place of quiet positivity. A lovely place to rest and experience life, if only for a brief stay. We are a Native American owned large acreage working sheep ranch and off grid B&B offering guests a unique stay at our ranch utilizing quality canvas bell tents, covered wagons, a cabin, and traditional Hogans on the Navajo Nation. In all there are 7 accommodations. Nicely spaced in a general area. Our ranch is beautifully located very near all areas of attraction - Antelope Canyon, the town of Page and Lake Powell are 15 minutes drive. Horseshoe Bend is only 5 minutes drive from the ranch. Both the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon are 2 hours. Monument Valley, Bryce, Zion, and Marble Canyon are well within driving distance. The Accommodation: The Hogan is a traditional Navajo dwelling. First and foremost a home, a traditional Navajo Hogan is also the center of Navajo ceremonial activity. It is considered sacred. A stay here is an experience. The Hogan is heated by wood burning stove. This experience will offer one an insight as to how the Navajo lived not terribly long ago. Please be respectful of this. NO ALCOHOL is allowed, It is ILLEGAL on the Navajo Nation. Nor is smoking allowed here. It is a place of quiet positivity. A lovely place to rest and experience life, if for a brief while as the Navajo did. Again, it is an experience. An interaction with Navajo culture. A place of learning. It is not the Marriot. It is not a five star hotel. It is a FIVE BILLION STAR in the sky hotel. Again, all accommodations are off grid - no electricity/ no running water. The accommodation is well appointed. Outfitted with the basic necessities one will need for a pleasant stay - All bedding, linens, wool blankets and sleeping bags for good measure. Candles, candle lanterns, a flashlight, and a solar light. Books, games. You'll also find amenities such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, towels in your accommodation. The Climate: We are medium to high desert - warmer or strong sun days and cooler to cold nights. Our ranch is at elevation 5500'. Please bring the appropriate clothing for the environment and climate at this time of year. Please check weather reports. Please bring the proper clothing for the environment and climate- layers, closed toed shoes, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated as there is no running water. The Toilet Facilities: There are several communal/shared well serviced, well maintained, airy and cleaned-daily modern outhouses/portapotties with tanks on the property. THE WAY TO BATHE: Shash Dine' respects that water is a precious commodity in the desert. There is a new communal/shared "camp shower." The camp shower is a two stall privacy structure. Solar Powered. It is hot water on demand. We provide well water sourced 30 miles away and brought to the homestead. There are no private wells on the Navajo nation. As it rains so infrequently here in the medium to high desert, and water is an absolute precious resource, please restrict showers to 5 minutes. Please be respectful of others guests and clean up after yourself. Amenities of shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrush, towels, etc., will be available in your accommodation. This stay is very minimalist. One will be immersed in nature. Set in outstanding natural beauty. AVAILABLE MEALS and AREA RESTAURANTS Each morning we provide Coffee and Navajo Tea. All meals can be purchased from a known caterer - created and delivered to the ranch, or sourced in town at the numerous restaurants. Guests are encouraged to purchase an insulated cool bag, ice, foodstuff to be kept in their vehicle. There is no ability to cook here, nor do we allow for it. We are an off grid (no electricity/no running water) working sheep ranch and b&b. Our ranch is 12 miles south of Page, AZ on the HWY 89, 1/4 mile east on Navajo RT 6211. Please refer to our detailed driving directions. It is best to NOT rely solely upon GPS as they've been wrong in the past and have sent guests widely off the mark. We've 7 working livestock guardian dogs on site. The Great Pyrenees and Maremma Sheepdog. All are friendly and highly trained. They will be curious of you and will keep you company at the fire. Our dogs are not allowed in any of the accommodations. We greet guests and give them a bio of the land, people, and accommodations as we check them in. We then tend to give guests privacy. However, we are on property and will certainly welcome questions guests have about the Navajo people and culture, sheep, ranch, and area attractions. We are a working ranch and B&B on the Navajo Nation. We are close to all area attractions. We are 12 miles south of Page, AZ. 1/4 mile off the HWY 89. All vehicle types can access our ranch. Must have own vehicle. Our ranch is a great base camp to launch excursions to Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, hiking, and all area attractions. Our B&B is immersed in nature. We cannot control nature - weather, insects, creatures. The Hogan is made of cedar and earth. It may leak. There is little to worry about, however.
