Description

*** Sorry, we do not accept agency or third-party bookings. *** *** Please note: Check-in times are strict. We cannot accommodate check-ins outside the hours of 16:00 - 22:00. *** Heather Lodge is a single-storey, 4-person cabin. It's located at Great Glen Lodges, which we own and run and where we live. The space _____ NEWS: Scotland is transitioning to net zero! As part of that transition, there are some energy infrastructure projects going on in the region and local area. You may see some work at various places along the road or have to wait a moment for workers to let you pass, but most of the activity won’t affect your stay. Our spectacular views and the rural property itself are the same as ever. One immediate benefit of this work is that near our property we’ve gained a beautiful new path diverting the Great Glen Way. Our guests who’ve walked it found it very good indeed. _____ Great Glen Lodges are in a really special and remote but accessible part of the Highlands, just near Loch Ness. The site is on the shore of Loch Lochy, which joins Loch Oich and Loch Ness via the Caledonian Canal. Heather Lodge is rustic and built from full-timber Scandinavian pine logs. The single-storey interior offers a bit of retro-cosy to travellers who like peace, quiet, and something of times past. We're in a rural area with poor internet connectivity, so our lodges do not have wifi, but the mobile phone towers in the area give most guests a good 4G signal. Please note: Heather Lodge has a walk-in shower only (no bath). Guest access Guests have access to our whole site, which includes our beach. There is a woodland hill path on the property for accessing the loch. The path involves about 100 stone steps down and is quite steep and narrow in some places. Guests should be confident on this type of terrain and will need good trail shoes/boots and appropriate outdoor wear to use the path. Children must be accompanied. On site is also a laundry room with coin-operated washing machine and dryer. We're right on the Great Glen Way, so you have access to lots of mountain hiking and walking opportunities for all levels of experience. Other things to note Navigation: Our postcode is PH34 4EB. Enter Great Glen Lodges, Kilfinnan, PH34 4EB into your GPS/Sat Nav or online map service to get here. Do not follow your Sat Nav/GPS instructions if they tell you to divert from the A82 at the Commando Memorial and follow a northerly path around the loch. This path is not open to vehicular traffic, and driving on it is illegal. Remain on the A82 until you reach signs for Kilfinnan. Note that some GPS/Sat Navs might tell you that you have reached your destination when you get to Kilfinnan Farm. We’re a bit further on from the farm, however. Just carry on up the hill and along the track a little way until you reach the Great Glen Lodges sign at the top of the road. Please also be aware that the last quarter-mile or so is an unadopted rough-track road. Though it gets regraded each year, it can sometimes be quite bumpy, so a bit of care needs to be taken. A normal car can easily negotiate the track, but you’ll want to drive slowly and not rush things. Food and meals: We provide self-catering accommodation—each cabin has its own kitchen, in which guests prepare their own meals. Because this area of Scotland is quite remote, we suggest that guests buy food and other provisions from one of the bigger towns near us before they get here. Although there are shops nearby, many guests will be arriving too late to find them open. The wonderful pubs and restaurants near us tend to serve food until only about 8pm, and some are open seasonally only from March or April. Guests travelling from the south can find supermarkets in Fort William (about 45 minutes’ drive from our location). Guests travelling from the north will probably want to buy their provisions in Inverness (about an hour’s drive from our location). It’s possible to order groceries ahead to have them delivered here from a major online supermarket. Just ask us for details. Registration Details Short Term Let Licence No. HI-40444-F
