The town is just 11 kilometres north of Benidorm, yet the two resorts are worlds apart. Altea is similar to other Costa Blanca towns in that it has a new and an old neighbourhood. The old section is perched on top of a hill from where you will find really spectacular views. Although the resort of Altea is less than 10 miles from Benidorm, the two resorts could not be more different. Altea has many attractions and you will not be stuck for things to do. The shopping precinct of Altea is very quaint and old-style Spanish. The shops usually open between 10 am and 9 PM, but many shop owners will adhere to the custom of taking a siesta during the hot months, and therefore will close between 2 and 4 PM. The best way to get round Altea is on foot, as this way you can see the delightful old buildings on the cobbled streets that would be missed if you were travelling by car.
