Bears Den is a large, rustic, kid-friendly home on the sunset side of a 9 mile long lake called Toddy Pond. Just 40 ft from the water, you’ll have privacy, stunning sunsets, dock, raft, kayaks, canoe & tennis court! Huge wraparound deck the length of the home - great for grilling, sunbathing, meals, drinks, naps and stargazing. Tree swing set, hammock. Huge boulder on the water provides incredible views. Enjoy all that nature offers. Close to Acadia National Park, Deer Isle & Blue Hill. If you are wondering how this home is different from others you are considering, ask me! Bears Den faces west - the sunsets are incredible! Whether staying for a long weekend or an entire week our guests routinely report Bears' Den to provide one of their most treasured experiences away from home. Bears' Den is a bright, spacious, and airy home with a summer camp feel. While many of our regular guests find they rarely leave our property, our home serves as an excellent base for ventures to Acadia, Deer Isle, Blue Hill or many other points. Our home is not insulated or heated (other than two fireplaces). Some spring and fall days—and particularly nights—can be chilly in this part of Maine. Most of our spring and fall guests find bundling up a bit in the morning and evening a small concession to experience the beauty and tranquility of this secluded lake setting. Three families can usually share our home fairly easily, especially if some kids share the 'bunk room.' Bedrooms: - Queen master bedroom/den - sleeps 2 with private fireplace - Queen and twin front bedroom – sleeps 3, faces lake making it easy to hear loons - Queen, twin and bunk beds back bedroom – sleeps 5, often used as a kids 'bunk' room - Queen and twin bedroom - separate private cottage - Linens for all beds - 2 comfortable daybeds inside & 1 outside - Room for air mattresses (not included) We have a well-appointed kitchen that is open to the dining and living spaces. The cooks and cleanup crew will feel at one with everyone else and with the with the lake. There are 2 bathrooms: a half bathroom off the kitchen and a full bathroom with tub/shower, laundry machines that is accessible from the covered porch or through a door in the back bedroom (you need to step outside for 2 steps, but are always under cover of the huge porch). Cooking will be a joy as you overlook the lake, take in sunsets and easily talk with other guests. You will have full access to our home and land. You may use our canoe, kayaks, private dock & swim raft. You may not use the power boat. You will share access to our tennis court and basketball hoop with our neighboring property. Use our supplies, free laundry facilities, firewood and blueberry fields. Someone from our family or our property manager will meet all first-time guests, usually within a few hours of your arrival. Beyond this, our space will be just yours. You will feel like you own the lake! The fourth, fifth, and now sixth generations of our family vacation in our shared homes every year and some of us are very likely to be at our other home next door. No matter what, I am a phone call away and our property manager can usually come by within a few hours if you need support. Blueberry fields border the distant (inaudible) road. Homes are well separated by both distance and forest. Blue Hill, Bucksport, and Ellsworth are all roughly 15-20 minutes away. Acadia National Park and a Deer Isle are about 30-40 minutes away depending on driving conditions. There is no public transportation in the immediate area; having your own transportation is essential. Boston, Portland, Bangor and Bar Harbor airports have all easily served our guests in the past. Depending on the weather and how the seasons shape up each year, our dock and raft may not be available in early spring or late fall. These are times when the lake can be less temperate for swimming anyway. If these amenities are important to you, please inquire before booking time after mid October or before mid May.
