Room 13 in The Gearin (Single)

Room 13 is a light-filled single room with polished floorboards. Whilst there is no television in this room there is one in the Common Room as well as tea and coffee making facilities in the shared kitchenette and dining area. The Gearin is an old hotel in much need of renovation but there are some great rooms. We have just reopened again after a period of closure. Our location is the best in Katoomba, opposite the railway station and near all the buses. The space The Gearin is the oldest hotel in Katoomba. It is heritage listed, and was originally built in 1881, the same year as a smallpox epidemic was unfolding in Sydney. Known as the Railway Hotel, it was run as a guest house by a Mrs Gearin. Sometime along the way it was refurbished in the Art Deco style, and features a ballroom, upstairs and downstairs accommodation with single rooms, double rooms and several rooms with ensuites. The Gearin has been neglected over the years, and is the process of refurbishment. Accommodation is basic, mostly shared bathrooms, and in need of some TLC. A wonderful recent addition, is the coffee shop situated directly downstairs. "On The Soul Side" Expresso Bar occupies the original bar, the longest bar in Katoomba.
