This oceanfront, well-maintained, vintage cottage harkens back to when vacation places were cozier and life moved more slowly. Nestled in the dunes, it provides a private respite for up to 6 guests (separate guest suite) while offering direct access to the beach. This home will especially appeal to those who consider simplicity and nature a luxury. All bed linens, bath towels, and beach towels are provided. We understand how special vacations are and want to host happy guests. If Four Gulls is not available, check out our other vintage oceanfront cottage that sleeps four south of this home in Kill Devil Hills. You can find it under the home name "Endless Oceanfront Days and Nights at Perriwinkle" Please understand that we have a firm no pets policy and though we would love the opportunity to host you, we will respectfully decline requests for pet exceptions. INTERNET: WIFI details will be available to you upon check-in, posted in the cottage. If internet problems occur, please try unplugging the router and plugging it back in first. If this doesn't restore service please call the provider, Silicon Travel, at the number posted on the refrigerator. Simply provide them the address of the home and the account can be accessed by our guests. Silicon Travel can troubleshoot, advise, inform of any area outages, and schedule a repair visit directly if necessary. Silicon Travel will need to communicate directly with a person on-site to verify that the service is restored. These instructions give our guests all the resources necessary to restore the internet service independently. We have done this to streamline the process so that the internet can get up and running as quickly as possible. Please make sure you understand and are comfortable with this arrangement before booking. KITCHEN AMENITIES: The kitchen is stocked with the basics: pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and utensils. There is a drip coffee pot and Keurig. No oil or spices for cooking are provided but there may be some left on-site by previous guests. There will be some paper products, coffee pods/filters, and trash bags on hand for a few days’ supply, but if you are here for a longer stay you will need to supplement these items depending on your personal use. HEATING/COOLING: The home is cooled in the summer months and warmed in the winter with newly installed air-conditioning/heating units in each of the rooms. The bedrooms have ceiling fans as well. If needed, there are a couple of radiators in the closets that may be placed as you wish for additional heat. The SPACE: This cottage has original juniper wood walls providing a cozy cabin interior for guests. It is a one-story structure with an open kitchen and living room area equipped with TV and cable. The home is an older structure built in 1955. It is an original Outer Banks flat-top. These homes are beloved by many for their architectural authenticity as they represent a time when vacations were simply about getting away with a small intimate group and spending as much time as possible outdoors! Please understand that the proximity to the ocean and years of surviving all types of weather have given the cottage a sea-worthy patina. We hope to accommodate those who appreciate older homes with a history. Four Gulls is an opportunity to experience one of these flat-tops while offering you the best possible access to the main event of any trip to the Outer Banks...the beach! We are not able to post links, but articles about the historic flat-tops can be found in Our State magazine or North Beach Sun. This home offers three separate spaces: the main living area, a separate bedroom with an en suite bathroom across from the main area which is connected by a breezeway, and the garage where you'll find the washer and dryer complete with detergents and dryer sheets. The home also has a clothesline where you can hang your wet towels and bathing suits. There's nothing better than fresh, sun-dried linens! We also supply an assortment of beach toys, boogie boards, skim boards, a small cooler so you can take beverages to the beach, several beach chairs, and a charcoal grill for cookouts in the salt air. You will also find charcoal, lighter fluid, matches, and bags for charcoal disposal after the grill has cooled. We also provide a large blanket that can spread out for the kids on the beach or for a romantic picnic under the stars. The garage is accessed by the door to the left of the detached private suite in the breezeway area. No umbrellas are provided, but local rental agencies may be contacted to deliver umbrellas/bikes, etc. to the cottage during your stay if you wish. Off the main living area are two bedrooms (sleeping four). One bedroom has two single beds and the other a queen bed. These rooms share a full bath with a tub. The covered breezeway leads to the private suite with a king bed, TV (with cable), and full bath (with shower). This space is ideal for those traveling with family who would like more privacy and quiet during their beach stay. If you love sleeping in the pitch black, you will love the hurricane shutters which can easily be closed giving you additional privacy and shade for mid-afternoon naps. A sizable outdoor screened porch directly off the living room comes with wicker chairs, Adirondack chairs, and a picnic table for lingering outdoors on rainy days or into the evening. There is an enclosed outside shower for easy rinse-off after the beach that is private and enjoyable to use. Please rinse off here when coming from the beach as it will keep sand out of the cottage and beds during your stay. BEACH ACCESS: A wooden footpath leads you from the cottage up to the dune line where you can access the ocean. The walk from the cottage to the beach is one hundred and eighty feet. This is your private access to the ocean from the home. Please note that there are no steps directly onto the beach from the wooden path leading directly from the home. To access the steps, take the wooden path that runs parallel on the left to the private easement and follow it to the steps that are maintained by the Property Owner's Association. As there are limited beach accesses available for parking cars in this area, the beaches are much less crowded than Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. It is truly a beautiful spot from which to enjoy the ocean morning, noon, and night! Again, we are not able to accommodate pets. No exceptions can be made. Thank you for understanding our policy. We thank you for your interest in the cottage and, whether you choose to be a guest here or at another home, we hope your time on the Outer Banks is wonderful! Guest access You will have access to the whole cottage and the beach. There is also access to the garage where you can use the washer/dryer, beach chairs, and beach toys. Beach Access: There is a walkway from the cottage to the oceanfront deck (180 feet), but there are no stairs from the oceanfront deck to the beach. The wooden path to the left (parallel to our footpath) leads you to easy access stairs to the beach. You may access the beach any time, day or night.
