Description
Overlooking the Atlantic, Westerbrake is a get away from it all experience. A cosy croft house, tucked away in a private coastal setting. Sea views, Breckon Beach, wildlife, walking and fishing 'on the doorstep'. Escape from the stresses of modern life - connect with nature for a while instead! Perfectly located base for exploring or birding Fetlar, Unst and Yell and within easy reach of Shetland Mainland. We are happy to accommodate short stays out of season and last-minute so please ask. The space Westerbrake has been lovingly refurbished. Original, vintage and antique features and furnishing have been kept wherever possible so its unique character still shines through. Modern insulation behind traditional wood panelling makes the cottage warm and cosy - even in the winter. There is a double bed in the bedroom and a traditional boxbed in the living room. The boxbed dimensions are 1.81m x 1.32m (5'11'' x 4'4''). Not quite as wide or long as a double so it is listed as single but it is bigger than single. It is ideal for one or two older children to share. It can of course accommodate adults so long as the dimensions are ok for you. We provide binoculars, maps and a wide selection of natural and cultural history books about Shetland and the local area to help you soak up your surroundings. We also provide a selection of games, puzzles and books to help you relax. The cottage has a portable Bluetooth speaker for you to listen to your own music if you have a Bluetooth enabled device. There are also USB charge points in the living room. There is an FM radio should you wish for some contact with the outside world! The freshly refurbished wash room has a spacious walk-in shower and a laundry cupboard with washing machine. There is a clothes dryer outside. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a kettle, toaster, electric oven with hobs & grill and a fridge-freezer. Guest access Westerbrake is self catering. You will have the cottage and its private garden with uninterrupted sea views all to yourself. There is a patio and lawn area with seating and a barbecue outside within a stonewalled and fenced boundary. Walking routes with stiles lead in both directions along the coast making it easy to explore the area on foot from the cottage. The award-winning Breckon Beach is just a few minutes walk around the headland. Whilst the cottage is free from the intrusions of internet, visitors have the opportunity to access the internet whilst relaxing with a cuppa at the Gutcher Goose café. Free wifi is also available from your car, 24hrs a day at the Gutcher ferry terminal. Both just 10 mins drive away. Other things to note Very occasionally the farm track may not be passable with a vehicle due to ice or snow. In this case it would be necessary to park on our drive and walk the 200 meters track to the cottage. It is also important to note that the cottage is surrounded by working farmland where sheep and or cattle may be present. Cattle are usually present July to October and new born lambs in April and May. Registration Details SH00375-N
