Our handcrafted two story adobe sits on two gorgeous acres. The apartment has a spacious bedroom upstairs with great light and mountain views; downstairs, there's a comfy living space, galley kitchen, bath & laundry. It's peaceful, quiet & close to hiking trails, with a separate driveway and entrance. We offer a deep discount to guests staying a month or more to pursue a creative project. NOTE: We require a ten day minimum stay for all guests, and offer a deep discount for month +stays.. The place is perfect for creative work: it's quiet, comfortable, and set in a lovely natural setting with few distractions. (Well, the birds, and the view, and at night the stars…). There's a queen bed that's suitable for one or two, a dining table, a writing desk, and a great couch and armchair for lounging. The other side of the house is an independent apartment we stay in when we're in town. Separate entrances at opposite sides of the house and separate driveways ensure maximal privacy, but the neighbors you encounter are friendly and informative. Read from the library (but please don't take the books!), walk on the grounds, use the internet and the phone (bring a calling card for long distance, please), do your laundry, or sit outside when the weather is good and watch the sun rise or set. We'll make sure you're comfortable and we'll clue you in to hiking trails and other local treasures, but you'll have quiet and privacy throughout your stay. San Cristobal is a beautiful valley village surrounded by national forest. The DH Lawrence Ranch is just up the road, Taos is a 20 minute drive away, and the Taos Ski Valley is 30 miles from here. You can see the Rio Grande wind its way west from the road entering the valley. Hiking trails offer short jaunts or multi-week expeditions: this really is a gateway to wilderness. You'll need a reliable vehicle here, as public transit is very sparse. There's a dedicated parking spot for your car and a short path to walk to the apartment. The stairs to the bedroom are VERY steep, and the bathroom is on the first level. There's a washer but no clothes dryer, though you'll have a laundry line a few steps outside the door. Keep in mind you'll have to pick up supplies on your way here; there's no grocery store in San Cristobal. We'll have some basics on hand for your arrival, though: coffee, tea, and such. And be advised your cell phone may not work -- that's why we keep a land line in the apartment for our guests' use.
