Description

The Swallows sits on the outskirts of the Traditional hillside village of Megali Mantinea,overlooking the gulf of messinia ,20 minutes from the cosmopolitan centre of Kalamata. It is 4kms from sea,the village boasts several excellent tavernas.Set in a terraced Olive grove,the grounds have been lovingly developed to sit harmoniously with the surroundings,the site is eco friendly. We offer bed and breakfast with homemade jams,jellies and marmalades plus dietary alternatives if advised in advance. The space Accomodation is in a modern light and airy Yurt for 2 set above the small village of Megali Mantineia 15kms east of Kalamata, Greece. Relax in the beautiful gardens amongst the Olive trees or go for a walk or swim in the sea 4kms away. Organic olive oil available. The kitchen is a metre away next to the yurt and is stone built. The bathroom is rustic up a few steps, in a wooden building amongst the olives.lights come on automatically to guide you at night. Kalamata is the second-largest city in the Peloponnese. In front of the kastro(castle) is the small, but attractive, old town, which was almost totally destroyed by the Turks during the War of Independence and rebuilt by French engineers in the 1830s. On 14 September 1986 Kalamata was devastated by an earthquake; 20 people died, hundreds were injured and more than 10,000 homes were destroyed. There is a bus station in Kalamata and Buses go to Athens regularly from kalamata and the express only takes around 2.30 hrs.. There are 4 Taverna's in the village and many more down by the sea. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.Ask me about private tours. Please note that it is advisable to rent a car or scooter as the beach is nearly an hour walk downhill. I can organise car hire, or taxi, or I can personally drive you for a small charge. All sorts of Activities and greek olive oil food tastings can be arranged just ask. Visit the mountains not far away, lovely scenery. Visit old churches and monasteries, villages perched high, mountain streams, hidden tavernas and more. Please note this place is not suitable for children, or wheelchairs, the ground is uneven and there are high walls and ponds.
