Historic Highlands Cherokee Park
Historic Highlands Cherokee Park
Historic Highlands Home in Cherokee Park with or without optional Guest Suite
Description
Step back in time in a living area of elegant chandeliers, original decorated wood floors, and gilt-framed artwork. Taking pride of place in this restored 1900s duplex are impressive decorative fireplaces with pillared surrounds. We take a lot of pride in this beautiful home. It is within a short walking distance to all major restaurants and entertainment and is in the hub of everything Highlands. Our home is your home. We hope you feel comfortable knowing that we are there for you as our guest and want you to have a great time in Louisville! Our guests have been perfect ... always taking great care while staying in our home and we appreciate it! We just love meeting new people! There are a few drawers or doors that are labeled "owner". Most are not locked, but we appreciate your respecting our space. People-watch from the porch during iconic events such as the Kentucky Derby, with a neighborhood festival with live music on its eve. Admire the architecture en route to a memorable meal in one of this city's finest dining areas. There are many public options for transportation including taxi, uber, and the TARC busline. There are even horse drawn carriage rides, bicycle rentals and segways! The great thing about being close to Bardstown Rd is that you are within walking distance to everything you need. The most famous, or infamous, walk is the "Bambi Walk" which starts at the Bambi Bar ... then you just basically hit every bar till you reach Baxter Avenue ... or cry out "I yield!" The city has limited us to one off street parking spot, so please use public transportation as much as possible. We have a driveway where you can park a couple of cars, but the best way to get around is by foot or uber. There is no street parking on Sherwood during "Sherby" ... so plan accordingly. You can rent this as a full duplex thereby doubling the capacity! Please contact us to see how you can have as many as 12 people in this one location. As this is a working home, sometimes repairs are being made to parts of the home during regular working hours. The space We take a lot of pride in this beautiful home. It is within a short walking distance to all major restaurants and entertainment and is in the hub of everything Highlands. There is a queen sized bed in the main bedroom and a king bed in the garden bedroom with the option to sleep on the twin-sized daybed in the garden bedroom, and we can also pull out the twin-sized trundle under the daybed as well. The basement is under partial construction, but it is open and available for guests to use and has four captain’s chairs with a large 85" screen TV. The basement floors are heated in the winter and provide a wonderful space to hang out on a cold day. Guest access Our home is your home. We hope you feel comfortable knowing that we are there for you as our guest and want you to have a great time in Louisville! Our guests have been perfect... always taking great care while staying in our home, and we appreciate it! We just love meeting new people! There are a few drawers or doors that are owner items. Most are not locked, but we appreciate your respecting our space. Please feel free to message me about any specific requirements or questions you may have, and I will be happy to assist. I am available to meet you upon check-in to ensure you can get into the house, and I am happy to run through the entire home with you. However, most items that I think people have questions about are either in my description or can be addressed via a quick call. I will check in periodically to ensure you are comfortable and everything is functioning well, but you generally won’t hear from me unless there’s something to address. Please let me know if anything doesn’t seem right or isn’t working properly. It is an old house, and there’s always something that needs attention! Other things to note This is a duplex, and we also rent out the upstairs unit, which is accessed only from the outside. Please expect to hear people upstairs. They will not need to go into the main part of the home to access their unit, as there is a separate exterior staircase with their own exterior door. If you are not renting or bringing a vehicle, please let us know. This will allow the upstairs guest to use the driveway, which is safer. If we don’t have a booking for the upstairs unit, we’re happy to block it off for you for an additional fee—message me for details. You can also rent the entire duplex, which doubles the capacity! Parking: Very Important: Please message me with the number and size of the vehicles you'll be using so I can ensure everything is arranged accordingly. We have a long driveway that can accommodate multiple smaller cars, so you’ll have plenty of space to park. We’re also licensed to allow one vehicle to park on the street. If you do park on the street, please ensure you park in the direction of traffic flow, and if possible, fold in your side mirrors for safety. Additionally, please keep the sidewalk clear for pedestrians, as this is an important consideration in our neighborhood. While parking is available, many of our guests prefer to Uber to our home, as we’re only 3 miles from the airport and have plenty of things within walking distance. Also, if you’re traveling with a larger group, bourbon buses often pick up directly from our house, making it a convenient option for those on the Bourbon Trail. House Rules: We ask that guests respect the quiet hours in the neighborhood, especially in the evenings, as this is a residential area. For your comfort and to maintain the cleanliness of the home, we ask that shoes be removed when entering. Slippers and shoe covers are available for use, or you’re welcome to wear socks. We hand wash our floors regularly, so we appreciate your cooperation in keeping them clean. Additionally, we kindly request that no open flames (such as candles or cooking with open flame) be used, and high-fat meats like bacon are not to be cooked in the home. Temperature Control: This is an older home, so the heating and cooling systems may work a bit differently than those in newer homes. The basement floors are heated during the winter, but the upstairs can vary in temperature depending on the season. Please let me know if you have any questions about adjusting the temperature. We’re very excited to be one of the few homes in Louisville that still uses a boiler system! It sits on a pedestal in the basement and heats the floors. Take a look if you’re curious! Wi-Fi and Entertainment: The home is equipped with Wi-Fi, and we offer a range of entertainment options, including streaming services and an 85" TV in the basement. Feel free to reach out if you have any trouble accessing these services. Housekeeping and Linens: Fresh linens, towels, and toiletries are provided for your stay. I take great care in ensuring that all linens are perfectly pressed using a 1940s IronRite ironing machine, which gives them a classic, crisp finish. If you need anything additional or have special requests, please don’t hesitate to ask. Repairs and Maintenance: As this is a working home, occasional repairs may be made during regular working hours. We strive to minimize disruptions, but please be aware that some maintenance may occur during your stay. If there’s anything that needs attention, please let me know, and I’ll do my best to address it promptly. Local Recommendations: If you're new to Louisville, be sure to check out some of my personal recommendations for nearby attractions, local dining spots, and things to do. I’m happy to provide insider tips and help you plan your itinerary! Registration Details STR929525
