Sway above the enchanted forest canopy and enjoy a soak in the wood-fired whisky barrel hot tub at our spherical canvas Dragon’s Egg tree house; you'll find it at the Red Kite Estate (featured on Mortimer & Whitehouse) near the Brecon Beacons. Cook on the firepit or make a pizza by the stream, and enjoy swinging in the bubble chairs as you take in the sights & sounds of the estate around you. Embrace off-grid living with 150 species of bird, wild ponies, & the odd cheeky squirrel for company. The space With epic views of mountains, forest and river, these suspended Tree Tents are a feat of aviation technology. These are the original, wild tree tents, established in 2012 featured on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. Other tents have followed, but you won’t find any in such unspoiled, remote and beautiful isolation. Head over the bridge to your own private deck that happily houses a clever outdoor-kitchen and shower (complete with hot water). It’s the perfect spot to fry up breakfast whilst basking in peace and tranquillity. There is also a flushing toilet situated just up the hill. And don’t worry, you’re not totally left to your own devices, on arrival you can expect bed linen, towels and a load of dry wood and kindling. If you feel the need to leave your new found homestead in the trees then the local area has lots of suitably chilled things to do. It’s dark and the loo is 30m away. 🧺 A wire basket to put in the stream (you can keep milk and beer cool that way) 👗 Weather appropriate clothing 🥾 A good pair of walking boots - the floor of the forest can get slippy 🔭 A telescope or binoculars for stargazing ♟️ Creature comforts like games, books and throws and flip flops for shower As we have 80 acres on the estate, you have a spacious private woodland one acre site which has been designed for you to enjoy a cosy and romantic experience. Dragon’s Egg has multiple raised private decks which house an outdoor kitchen and dining space, seating areas as well as a hot outdoor shower. There is a flushing loo just up the hill. Down at the water’s edge you have a seating deck with luxurious swinging bubble chairs, a firepit. Inside the tent you will discover warm orange furnishings, a comfortable double bed which folds into a sofa, all the linen you’ll need and cosy wood burning stove. Canopy living by the stream in a finely engineered spacious 3 metre radius, steamed ash frame, suspended canvas pod, has to be experienced to be believed. When you’re ready to go further afield, head out on a moorland walk to take in some magical views - the nearest pub is in Newbridge-on-Wye for those of you who need some motivation. Further afield, the stunning Elan Valley, a landscape bursting with impressive dams and reservoirs, is well worthy of an explore. And for those needing supplies - and perhaps a flat white - then the friendly market town of Builth Wells is just down the road. Guest access Guests have full access to the entire 80-acre estate, which is set in a dark skies park, meaning you get mind blowing views day AND night! There is a short walk from the car park to the tree tent, so a head torch is useful in the dark. We provide instructions to guide you to the tent. Wood is stored in a crate in the car park. They feed the birds regularly throughout the day and it is a stunning sight! Enjoy the countryside - wild swimming, hiking, biking but… The true joy of this place is how wonderfully simple it is (aviation technology aside). Days are filled with fireside discussions, wildlife watching and stunningly beautiful walks. With the nearest mobile signal a ten minute walk away, it’s a great place to ditch the digital and truly escape. You might find you’ll never want to leave (and with 81 acres of estate to hide in, you might not have to!) Other things to note Our estate is committed to sustainability and rewilding. Expect an eco-friendly stay with upcycled and scavenged decor. This is a digital detox experience with no electricity or WiFi, but you will pick up patchy phone signal A car is fairly essential due to the remote location, and parking is available on-site but you can do it by train and taxi from Llandridnod Wells Bring your sense of adventure and enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of Dragon's Egg.
