Clean, bright studio apartment in the charming village of Old Wethersfield. Stroll to cafes, village green, historic homes and museums. Minutes from I-91 with easy commuting access to downtown Hartford, business and tourist sites, universities, and Hartford Hospital/CCMC. The studio is an in-law suite above our garage. It is attached to our home but has its own keyed entrance. It has a full kitchen, bathroom with shower over tub, closet, queen-sized bed, kitchen table/chairs, and workspace. *UPDATE: We are open to vaccinated guests and their children. Please check the latest Connecticut Travel Advisory. Thank you and stay safe!* Our place is suitable for two people: it has a queen-sized bed. We can also accommodate 2 children; please indicate when making your request. We can provide a pack n'play (travel cot), highchair, etc for the youngest guests, and a mattress on the floor for older children. The studio has a kitchen with full-sized fridge and freezer, an oven, and a microwave. There is a dining table and chairs. There is a futon and armchair around a gas-fired stove, for cozying up in the cooler months. There is a bathroom with sink, toilet and shower. There is a spacious closet with shelves and hangers. We provide tea, coffee and some snacks. We don't have a TV but we do offer Wifi, board games, and reading material (and that cozy fireplace!). The studio has its own entrance up a single flight of stairs and its own door key. The studio is above our garage; on the inside, it is separated from the main house by the staircase and feels very private. There is driveway parking for one guest car. Guests are requested not to use the lawn/garden or patio area. We live in the attached family home. Although you might hear a bit of neighborhood activity in the morning and early evening, it's a quiet residential street and we welcome guests who are looking for a calm place to relax. In general, sound doesn't carry between the studio and the main house, but we ask that you keep the noise down after 10pm (i.e. no shouting, slamming doors, or blasting music), and that you be forgiving of the occasional squawk from our children! Old Wethersfield was Wongunk territory settled by English colonists in the 1630s. It became one of the USA's first historic districts in the 1960s. The studio is just off Main St, a few steps from the historic village green. There are scenic strolls down Main St with many 18th and 19th century homes. George Washington not only slept here - he planned the final battles of the Revolutionary War here with Rochambeau! Old Wethersfield was the setting for the classic children's book The Witch of Blackbird Pond. It recently was the set for both Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies, and fans of the TV show The Gilmore Girls joke that OW is the real Stars Hollow. OW has some great local businesses within walking distance: Heirloom Market at Comstock Ferre for lunch and coffees, the award-winning The Charles restaurant and cocktail bar, Aroma Bistro for burgers and sandwiches, Lucky Lou's tavern for dinner or drinks on the patio, the Creamery for ice cream (seasonal), Village Pizza, and the OW Country Store for picnic supplies and Connecticut gifts. (Please note that most of these small businesses are closed on Mondays). Silas Deane Highway, a major thoroughfare, also has plenty of chain restaurants, pharmacies, grocery stores, laundromats, and shops. It's not as pleasant to walk there, but it's a quick drive, so you can get anything you need within a few minutes. Younger guests will enjoy walking to the Cove to feed the ducks (seasonal), running around on the Green, and the Mikey's Place Playground (about 1/4 mile away). Within a 20-minute drive you can find seasonal fun like apple and blueberry picking. We are happy to recommend local walking and cycling routes, too. Old Wethersfield is Exit 26 on I-91 - but it's a world away! In addition to driving, the 53 bus to downtown Hartford is a 2-minute walk from the studio. Driving, we are 10-15 minutes from Trinity College or Hartford Hospital, about 20 minutes from Wesleyan University, and about 30-40 minutes from Yale. Wethersfield is halfway between New York City and Boston and is very close to both 91 and 84. We are a 5-minute walk from the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum, a beautiful wedding venue. No tobacco or drug use of any kind (including vaping). No smoking inside the studio, in our driveway, or in front of our house. If you are a smoker, our studio is not a good choice for you. No parties or additional guests: please provide the full names of any guests before you arrive. No pets. No excessive noise after 10pm.
