The space Set in a charming cottage garden with views over the fields and trees to Largs and the Firth of Clyde beyond, just off the Brisbane Glen, it is two miles from the centre of Largs and the sea. With steps at the front door, but a ramp at the back door this is suitable for those who are less able, with a downstairs bedroom and bathroom with a walk in shower, and also small children, babies and dogs. It is a great holiday cottage for all the family. Refurbished in 2010 this was originally an under gardener's cottage for Noddsdale Estate. There is a path up to the main garden of the big house where there are flower beds and some fruit trees along with the tennis court. The hill behind the house has magnificent views, so if you like to walk, bring suitable boots and your camera. We have a Hydro Electric Scheme, also upgraded in 2010. The water is dammed in a pretty spot up the hill and is something of a local beauty spot! Some of our guests who come to Noddsdale are here for some peace and quiet and the west coast air usually does its magic and allows good nights' sleep in our super comfy beds after a day of exploring the area or just relaxing on the estate. There are many sights to see: Castles, including Kelburn Castle just south of Largs with a country park and play area and much much more; Culzean Castle south of Ayr; Dumfries House, near Cummock, saved for the nation by The Prince of Wales (or The Duke of Rothesay, as he is known in Scotland), Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute; the Cathedral of the Isles in Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae which is the smallest cathedral in the United Kingdom, if not Europe. If you like golf, there are 2 courses in Largs - one where Sam Torrance was brought up as his father was the pro. There are also lots of beautiful courses within an hours' drive. Sailing is very popular in the Firth of Clyde and there is a marina to the south of Largs and one at Inverkip. Largs Yacht Haven boasts two fine eateries and you can take a walk along the Esplanade to The Pencil which commemorates the Battle of Largs in 1263. Every year The Viking Festival is held at the end of August/beginning of September to celebrate the event. There are many places to eat in Largs including the world famous Nardini's Restaurant and Cafes. Ice Creams to die for! Ferries run from Largs to Cumbrae every half hour in the winter and every quarter in the summer. You can take the ferry, hop on the bus, hire bicycles in Millport and then ride round the island which is about 11 miles for a great day out - stopping at Fintry Bay, in the Summer months, for a well earned bite to eat or ice cream and relax on the beach - or even a swim. Wildlife a plenty to watch out for on your way round. Ferries to the Isle of Bute run regularly from Wemyss Bay and a bus takes you to Mount Stuart. Rothesay has the most amazing public conveniences on the pier. Ferries to the Isle of Arran run from Ardrossan, 30 minutes south of Largs, and take about an hour. Arran is like a mini Scotland with Goat Fell to climb (for those who are fit at least!) and a distillery at the north end of the island at Lochranza and golf courses, beaches and a road all the way around the island. There are various Arran business along the way selling unique island produce including cheeses and soaps. Other things to note All linen and towels, logs and electricity are included.
