LITHI House

The LITHI House was built in 1796, in the traditional Mani architectural style, next to our own family tower house. It was restore. The architectural peculiarity of the house, as well as the unique view to the Mediterranean will impress you, since it is only 1,700 meters from the sea (in a straight distance), while at the same time it will offer you moments of relaxation, as here you will feel for the first time absolute silence. The space The LITHI House is about 150 square meters in size. Outside, there is a courtyard with barbeque and wood-burning oven, as well as space for safe parking of your car. Inside, it consists of an open space with a fully-equipped kitchen on a separate level from the dining room and living room with fireplace. Continuing along the corridor and through the low door at the end, you will reach three bedrooms, on three different levels, as well as the two bathrooms (on the ground floor and the second floor). Up on the second floor outside the rooms, you will find yourself in the impressive old kitchen house, with its carefully-preserved wood-burning oven. Another lovely surprise for you is the “liakoto” (or sun balcony). Here you can admire panoramic views of the west side of Cape Matapa (also known as Cape Tainaro) and the endless blue sea of the Mediterranean. You can also see the Almyros beach and the village of Tsikalia, as well as the meandering dry stonewalls and bare slopes interlaced with olive groves leading up to the mountain village of Mountanistika. And as night falls and you relax with a glass of wine on the sun balcony, you can lose yourself in the infinity of stars. Guest access The LITHI House is located in the village of Tsikalia, in the community settlement of Sihalasmata. It is a tiny village that moves at a gentle pace, affording you the opportunity to imagine what it might be like to for time to stand still. Its geographical location is ideal for touring both Eastern and Western Mani, since geographically the village is located in the center of Cape Tainaro. It is 30 km from Areopolis, which has a Health Center, 25 km from the famous caves of Diros, and 7 km from Gerolimenas, where you can find the nearest mini market. Just 3 km away is Almyros, the nearest beach. The large white pebbles smoothed by the sea (called ‘laloudes’ by the local people for the whispering sound they make as the waves wash over them), the cool cave where you can shelter from the hot sun, the imposing rocky landscape and the nearby ruins of Ancient Kainipolis, offer experiences not to be missed. However, it is just as easy to access other beaches of the Mani, such as Marmari beach with its golden sands, and Porto Cayo beach, which we recommend for swimming and eating, as well as the beaches of East Mani, such as Ampelos, Alypa, Kokkala. The villages of Vathia, Lagia and Alika, which are only 4 km away, are very much worth visiting for their traditional Mani tower house architecture. Another unique experience not to be missed if at all possible is the sunset at the lighthouse at Cape Tainaro, which is the southernmost tip of mainland Greece.
