Lamington Rainforest Cottage

A private rainforest retreat in the heart of Australia's birding paradise. O'Reilly in the Scenic Rim of the Gold Coast Hinterland is known for its bush walking trails, history & birdlife. We're able to offer our renovated space for an off-the-grid forest experience. A peg in the ground separates our boundary & the Green Mountains Section of Lamington National Park. Acquired from the O'Reilly's 35 yrs ago the previous owner lovingly established the hideaway we've now bought & renovated. The space Relax with beautiful birdlife in our 1.7 acre private property or take the 6 km drive to O'Reilly's Lodge. Its history is fascinating and there you will find a cafe with stunning views, the Tree Top Walk and numerous bush walks that Lamington National Parks is renowned for. On the way you pass the 4x4 track, Duck Creek Road. Sundowners and a meal are a personal favourite from the upstairs pub at O'Reilly's Lodge. The 35 minute trip from the historic Canungra Township to Forest Cottage is one of the most unique drives in Australia. You'll pass the O'Reillys and Sarabah vineyards then the bitumen road winds up through Aussie scrub and magnificent views until it enters the rainforest. Please be alert as kangaroo and wallaby abound. Black cockatoo and Pale Rosella and even the occasional dingo can sometimes be seen on the trip up. With rainwater tanks and solar power this off-the-grid experience is really educational in a society where these essentials are taken for granted. Thanks to the Airbnb community we have been able to commence preparations for a further 2-bedroom 2-bathroom extension in a fenced off area behind the main house. Guest access No one else has access to the property during your stay Other things to note The smaller bedroom will only be available for bookings of more than two adults. The 8 guest limit is ideal for families.
