Description
Back Beach Coastal Retreat is a relaxed, spacious hideaway nestled at the base of the Mornington Peninsula National Park on Boon Wurrung Country. The vibe is bespoke, eclectic, chill. With the choice of two hot springs just 2 mins away the coastal beach track 20 mtrs from the front door, it’s perfect for a Winter break. Hear the mood of Bass Strait lounging on the deck, or throw open the doors and bliss out on a mid century couch with black cockatoos and sweeping casuarinas for company. The space Our house had been an abandoned shell for almost two decades before we took it on and rebuilt it from the bottom up. We used recycled materials throughout, salvaging a lot of what was on site with some low impact additions. The house has two super large bedrooms downstairs, each with a queen bed, comfy chair taking in the sun, and lot's of eye candy. There’s a big desk for remote work. A hand made stair case leads to a cosy nook of tween dreams upstairs. This space has been lovingly restored timber panel by timber panel, creating a nordic loft with a basic fold out double bed, telly, and bean bags. Back downstairs the living space is open and flexible, with three sitting areas decked out in mid century lounges and chairs. A large hand made jarrah dining table seats 8, and the recently built kitchen is bespoke all the way - chic ply meets Tassie Oak with copper tones and mod cons, complete with generous breakfast bar and pantry with all the basics. There's two bathrooms- inside is glam with an outrageously generous walk in shower and hand made cabinetry, whilst outside is a retro dream with a deep pink bath and retractable window so that you can take in the tea tree dunes to the West. There's lot's of art- some serious and some home grown- books, throws, a record player, and yes, you can connect to the interweb too. The entire space has been designed to integrate inside and out with discreet spaces. The front gardens are planted in with all local indigenous species. The back brings together a large, sun drenched terrace flanked by a hand built dry stone wall, a wedge of lush lawn, and a mixed planting of natives, fruit trees and exotics. There is also a rear deck along the full length of the house with lounges, swinging chairs and hammocks. Oh and two fire pits for winter gatherings. We are pretty house proud- this is where we cook and hang with friends and family. Almost every detail of our space has been hand made by us with love, sweat and the odd tear. The house isn't suited to super small people- primary school age and up. If you want to stay with more kids than our beds accomodate, we can chat about some extra camping style bedding. And we're not able to host four legged friends. We don’t have A/C but rather rely on the dependable arvo coastal breeze, ceiling fans and circulation. Heating is via Nobo panels. We supply all bed linen and bath towels, but it’s BYO beach gear. We have a 2 night stay minimum on weekends, and 3 nights on long weekends and school holidays. Guest access You'll have the entire house and all of gardens to yourself- it’s a big block, about 900 sqm. There is a studio and garden shed at the rear of the property that are off limits, but the rest is yours! Other things to note We have a 3 night minimum for long weekends and holiday periods. Our space isn’t suited to schoolies bookings, bucks/ hens or other group shebangs. We use the property regularly so we don't accomodate short- medium term rental enquiries. We also don't discount our prices regardless the length of stay- we've set rates that we think are reasonable and it's often uncomfortable to have to explain that we're not up for a barter! Thanks heaps.
