Other things to note ⭐ Why Couples Love The Palette Pad Couples love The Palette Pad for its private, romantic setting on a working farm, where they can create unforgettable memories together. From cozy evenings by the fireplace or fire pit to exploring hiking trails, river access, and seasonal wildflowers, every moment is designed for connection, adventure, and relaxation. The cabin also offers comfortable spaces for quiet work or creative inspiration, making it perfect for couples seeking both fun and peaceful downtime. Whether celebrating a milestone, anniversary, or simply escaping the everyday, The Palette Pad provides a charming and memorable Hill Country retreat. The Palette Pad was the art studio of one of President Lyndon B. Johnson's favorite artists, C. P. Montague (my mom). She painted hundreds of paintings sitting at her easel in front of the north wall of windows overlooking the bluff and river bottom. There are several representations of her artwork in the home as well as a notebook telling the story of her discovery as an artist and finding the farm and building the studio. Guests tell me they have loved reading the history and it made The Palette Pad come alive for them. Note: The farm has 1 mile river frontage, but the river is not visible from the cabin. It is a short walk or drive through the pasture. FYI: The cabin in in a rural area with no streetlights. If you will be leaving and returning to the farm after dark, be sure and leave your porch light on! The shower and toilet areas in the bathroom are small and not suitable for large people. We are very pet friendly! Dogs are not required to be on a leash or crated. No smoking in the cabin, but fine outdoors.
