⚜ Plan a nature escape at this open-concept high-vibe unique home with chateau décor surrounded by trees on a private 1 acre lot at the western edge of Gatineau Park’s lakes and trails. 45 mins (43 km) from Ottawa. Wood heated sauna. If the desired dates are blocked please message me and I will try to accommodate. ⚜ license No.: 300489: Principal residence. The space It is a modern open-concept house built over a log cabin that dates back to the 1950's that has been described as a forest retreat or a rustic château in the woods thanks to its design, architecture and eclectic décor touches. The house had been on the market for one year before I acquired it due to the scope of work required. I have put a great deal of my time and resources to bring back and improve this once neglected property that has been mine since 2018, and I while I am quite protective of it, I am also absolutely delighted to share my space with other like-minded, high-vibe people who appreciate and want to experience this kind of home. Every bit of money I earn on this platform goes into maintenance and improvements to the house, grounds and outbuildings which require ongoing upkeep. I greatly appreciate the amazing Airbnb community. It is 45 minutes to downtown Ottawa or 43 km using the Parliament buildings as a reference. I try to open my calendar when I know I will be away, however if the dates you are looking at are blocked please message me with your desired dates and purpose of your booking and I will try to accommodate. This is and has always been my principle residence. THE HOUSE This house is ideal to get out of the city and enjoy being in an airy and uplifting house surrounded by nature with lots of outdoor space and privacy. The custom windows are inspired by Antoni Gaudi's Casa Batllo in Barcelona and were installed and designed by local master woodworker and carpenter commissioned by one of the previous owners, Tyler Aspin. They were quite weather-beaten not having been property maintained and I restored and protected with a well known German product used in many castles and manors called Osmo oil. The open-concept promotes interaction. Many outdoor activities available in Gatineau Park and in the surrounding area described in detail in the "Location" section below in both winter and summer. BEDROOMS The bedrooms consist of 2 semi-private lofts with queen beds upstairs with many privacy screens and one sleeping nook downstairs I like to call The Potting Shed, with a king bed separated with a curtain for privacy. I also have a storage shed that I use as an extra sleeping area with a king bed which could also be included in the rental with prior warning (photos listed as bedroom 4 as there was no shed category). LIVING ROOM There is a 65 inch TV with an AppleTV device with Youtube, Netflix, and Prime and a SOMA radio app with various musical genres. You can copy your phone to the tv through the Apple TV device or send music through bluetooth to the soundbar. There is no cable or satellite. KITCHEN Cookware and plenty of white everyday dinnerware and flatware are provided, including a French Press coffeemaker and a coffee grinder, a slow cooker and wineglasses. The well water is very good, it goes through sediment and ultraviolet light filters. DINING ROOM The large regal table and french country chairs can comfortably seat 8, and also available for use is a set of rich gold-accented porcelain china dinnerware for exactly 8 including Wallace Hotel heavyweight vintage style flatware inspired from ornate patterns used in luxury hotels of the past for setting a lux table for special dinners. BATHROOMS There are 2 toilets, one in a powder room and one in the shower room which has a heated floor and towel bar. This house is on a septic system. There is also an outhouse with a waterless ecological Sun-Mar brand composting toilet. I leave a basket with different shower gels and shampoos in the shower room and you can also bring your own of course. Biodegradble products are favoured. The tub is in the upstairs master bedroom. Towels provided. OUTDOOR SPACES The sauna can be used all year, you must bring your own firewood for the sauna which you can find sold in plastic bags at hardware and convenience stores since regular firewood is too large for the sauna stove. There is a large gazebo that was built by the previous owners for yoga that I arranged with lounging areas and tables and chairs and church pews from the St-William Church of Martintown, Ontario, under the title "event space" as it was the only suitable category, which can be part of your rental with advance notice as additional cleaning fees would be applicable as the cushions and textiles are all put away when not in use and the space is generally not all set up. The front windows of the gazebo are from the historic "Old Depot" in Otter Lake Quebec, a heritage hewn log cabin built around 1839 by lumber baron Philemon Wright, who is largely credited with being one of the founders of the Outaouais by establishing industry. The Old Depot in Otter lake was used to store supplies such as flour, molasses and hay. It also housed the Post Office, the forge and a general store. The building was lovingly restored by a lovely couple, the Dubeau's, who sold me the windows as they had to be replaced with more efficient ones, and I was very grateful to have them. They were happy to learn how I was going to use them. The rest of the antique windows were salvaged from an historic five-storey apartment building in downtown Ottawa at 325 Cooper. The Contractor who was charged with replacing the wooden windows with new efficient ones did not want them all to go to landfill. An antique dealer bought 100 before I arrived, and I was able to get 40. WORKSPACE There is a large workspace for 2 to 3 people on the second level which faces the large windows, and is suitable for teleworking. For wifi, I have an average plan which is sufficient for video conferences. Cellular reception is not very good but there is a signal booster at the large upstairs work desk for 3, and I recommend that you put enable WIFI calling on your phone if possible to better receive calls. Outside the house the cell signal is generally good. I also have a voice over IP phone for calls within Canada with 911 service. SEASONS For the summer, there is no air conditioning but being out of the city it usually cools down considerably at night. You can keep the house cool by opening windows at night and closing them in the morning. I provide a fan beside each bed. I recommend you check the weather forecast for Pontiac Quebec. In the winter, the house is heated with electric baseboard heaters and of course the wood stove really makes the place cosy. The fall is amazing here and the winter is magical. I will provide you with a fixed amount amount of firewood for the wood stove as long as you commit using it appropriately and safely, which should be plenty for your stay. Only guests who are included in the rental of my house and property can use the house and grounds. No pets or therapy animals (I am deathly allergic) or children under 12 (space not suitable due to various safety hazards listed in house rules). Either I or a friend will be staying a few steps away and can intervene instantly if needed. CITQ registration number: 300489.
