On the beaten path, Parker House is close to everything Down East! Get out and enjoy what Maine has to offer & stock up at great stores less than a mile away. While the house sleeps an extended family of ten quite comfortably, six to eight is optimal. The space The house boasts a sunny kitchen with painted bead-board, gleaming subway tile and lots of windows. The south-facing space was designed and stocked with cooks & coffee lovers in mind: ample work areas include a farmhouse sink and separate prep sink, making meal preparation a pleasure. We've been delighted by positive feedback from groups of friends & families who have enjoyed cooking together and we continually strive to make the experience even more satisfying for our guests. We’re pleased to note that Blue Hill is home to a first-rate Co-op within walking distance of Parker House, to growers selling fresh produce either onsite or at weekly farmer's markets at the local fairgrounds and to many farm-to-table restaurants including some that have recently received national attention. The Blue Hill Peninsula is a foodie destination! Our kitchen opens onto a forty-foot living & dining space composed of two of the house's original downstairs rooms: the former kitchen with its massive fireplace & beehive oven, original iron fittings and antique pewter on the mantel, and a living area with a large Hearthstone wood stove for gatherings on chilly June, August or September evenings. Through a short passage is the Morning Room, a book-filled chamber with sofa bed, comfortable chairs & its own dining or study table perfect for sunlit breakfasts. With a half bath & direct access to the South Porch the Morning Room is essentially a self-contained suite, ideal for the early birds in the family or as a dedicated work-from-home space. The stair hall leads to our formal front Parlor and up to the bedroom floor. All three upstairs bedrooms, like the Morning Room, are large enough to serve as bed-sits: great for those who want privacy, but convivial early risers will appreciate the adjoining east-facing sitting area or 'Sun Room' from which the sun's rays can just be seen hitting the summit of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia, the first place they touch the east coast. We're thrilled with all the new life summer guests have breathed into Parker House, now well into its third century. Blue Hill is a great town in a part of Maine justly famous for its natural beauty and cultural & recreational opportunities. If we do say so ourselves, our house is a kind of a landmark - historic & located on a well-traveled road between Blue Hill & towns further down the Peninsula - and we look forward to sharing it with more people who either already know Blue Hill or are visiting for the first time. Guest access Guests have access to an entire house, three bedrooms plus a den/downstairs bedroom with en suite half bath. There's an in-law apartment above the kitchen & dining room but you’ll hardly notice it's there. Please be assured you do have the entire place to yourself. No interior spaces or entrances are shared, and while we remain pet-friendly there is no longer a dog on the property. Other things to note Barncastle pub & performance venue just up the street has recently changed hands and has a new & exciting culinary focus. We're proud of our connection to the house’s builders, among the founders of Blue Hill's summer colony, whose portraits adorn our stair hall. Effie Hinckley Ober named Barncastle 'Ideal Lodge' after the Boston Ideal Opera Company which she owned & managed. Many of her relics reside at Parker House including a recently-restored upright piano. If you’re an American music history buff Parker House may be of special interest to you.
