Description

The Dortmannhof is a listed former farm from the 18th century. It is located in the middle of the big city of Essen, but still centrally located and at the tram and subway stop. Within walking distance is the site of the UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein as well as a network of bicycle paths. The Berlin architect Prof. Sigurd Larsen has designed a guest unit in the form of a "house in a house" that is freely accessible and rented here. The space The Dortmannhof was built according to the principle of the "Westphalian Hallenhaus" (Westphalian Hall House), in which people and animals lived under one roof. In the rooms of the former stables and the barn, according to the design of the Berlin architect Prof. Sigurd Larsen built a spectacular "guest house in the house." The guest house has its own guest bathroom with toilet and shower as well as a sleeping and living room accessible via a spiral staircase. The 13 m² living room has a narrow (127 cm) double bed, a desk and storage space. The guest apartment has no kitchen. In the immediate vicinity is a bakery and several restaurants. The property is not barrier-free and not suitable for infants due to the open spiral staircase. For older children, a mattress can be provided. Since 08/01/2025, the city of Essen has levied an accommodation tax of 5% on overnight accommodation costs. This will be charged through Airbnb ("Other tax" on fees) and forwarded by us to the city of Essen. Guest access Guests get the key to their separate entrance to the "guest house." Other things to note The Dortmannhof is located directly on a network of over 1000 km of car-free bike paths through the countryside on former railway lines. This way, you can explore many highlights of the Ruhr area. Two bikes are available for guests.
