Well sheltered from the wind, it guarantees a calm sea that is ideal for nature lovers and water sports (surfing, kite surfing practiced by many young people on the stretch of sea in front of the beach of Liscia) SARDINIA IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER Sardinia in October and November is a wonderful Mediterranean travel destination. Only in autumn, or early spring, can you enjoy the most beautiful beaches of the Costa Smeralda without the masses of tourists and families. Visiting the cities of Sardinia is more pleasant in October than in August when it is too hot. Autumn paints the mountains with the colors of gold and bronze. Between September and November, many events are organized to promote Sardinian culture and food and wine traditions. We suggest visiting Sardinia in autumn if: • you are interested in the sea but also in cultural and culinary travel experiences • you prefer mild temperatures • you love uncrowded tourist destinations The climate of Sardinia in autumn Sardinian autumn is mild and quite windy. Rain is more frequent at this time of year, but it is usually never abundant on the island. The water temperature of the beautiful beaches of Porto Cervo is about 20 degrees in October. The sea on the east coast is warmer than the west coast and in October still benefits from the heat accumulated during the summer. What's the weather like in Cagliari in autumn? The Sardinian capital is located in the south and is warmer all year round than northern Sardinia. In October, the maximum temperatures reach 73 degrees and often go beyond. In November, however, they are just under 20 degrees. How to get to Sardinia in autumn Olbia Costa Smeralda airport is Sardinia's gateway to the rest of the world. Until October 28, 2017, Olbia is connected to 57 destinations and 18 countries. The European countries with the most flights are France and Germany. Among the most important German cities connected with Olbia Costa Smeralda airport are: Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover, Frankfurt and Munich. Among the French cities: Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux. As of November, some flights will not be operational. But Olbia airport is connected all year round with the main Italian cities. So it is easy to reach Sardinia by making a stopover. Otherwise, you can check which connections are operational on Alghero. Sardinia in October and November An autumn vacation in Sardinia is different from a summer trip. In July and August, people mainly go to the beach. Both because the island's beaches are among the most beautiful in the Mediterranean and because the temperatures are very high. Visiting cities and villages with 40 degrees is not pleasant. Here's what you can do between the end of summer and the beginning of December. 1. Enjoy the beaches of the Costa Smeralda The beaches of Porto Cervo and its surroundings are strips of white sand bathed by the turquoise sea. They are framed by soft white rocks and immersed in the Mediterranean maquis that protects them and envelops them with its scents. On sunny October days and in the hottest hours, you can safely swim. These wonderful beaches, true natural paradises, will be all yours in autumn, while in summer it is often difficult to find a place. You can take long evening walks and enjoy breathtaking sunsets with the Maddalena Archipelago Natural Park and the islands of Tavolara and Molara in the background. 2. Visit Alghero The capital of the Coral Riviera is one of the most important cities in Sardinia. It is a unique location on the island because it has a special history linked to the presence of the Catalans. In fact, it is also known as the Barceloneta of Sardinia. You can reach Alghero from Olbia in just over 2 hours by car. A day is enough to visit the most important tourist attractions of Alghero. We suggest a walk through the beautiful old town among towers, alleys and ramparts. There are many corners to photograph. Don't miss a lunch of fish and typical desserts. A few kilometers from Alghero you will find the Neptune Caves and the archaeological complex of Nuraghe Palmavera. 3. Discover Cagliari Cagliari is the largest city on the island. It has a long and important history. To get to Cagliari from Olbia you have 2 alternatives: train or car. The car is preferable because during the journey you will see other scenic wonders, especially if you follow the Orientale Sarda. The Olbia-Cagliari car journey takes about 3 hours. It is more pleasant to visit the capital of Sardinia in October and November because the Cagliari summer is very hot. The most important attractions in Cagliari are: the Castello district, the bastions, the towers of San Pancrazio and the Elephant. Also in Cagliari, as in Alghero, do not miss a typical lunch. The Marina district is full of trattorias where you can enjoy the local culinary specialties. Finally, drive to the Molentargius pond to watch the pink flamingo show. 4. Trekking in the mountains The mountains of Sardinia in October and November are perfect for hiking and mountain biking. Near Olbia you will find the Limbara mountain complex. It is not high and therefore ideal for hiking. The surrounding countryside, rich in cork oaks and vineyards, is also fascinating and worth a visit. Alternatively, you can visit the Gennargentu Natural Park. The area is very large. It has enormous natural value as well as beautiful caves and canyons, among the deepest in Europe. 5. Participate in a village festival Between September and November, you will certainly have the opportunity to attend a village festival. During this period, the Autumn in Barbagia event is scheduled. For three months, the villages of Barbagia, the heart of the island, come alive and stage their most ancient traditions. Village festivals are the right opportunity to discover the culture of Sardinia. On the occasion of these events, ancient crafts, traditional clothes and above all food and wine specialties are represented. Private homes are opened to show the many tourists how bread, pasta and typical desserts were prepared. Olbia is the ideal departure city if you decide to visit Sardinia. The airport is well connected with Italy and abroad. From Olbia you can easily move to the rest of the island for one/two days. While during the rest of the vacation, take advantage of the mild climate of Sardinia to enjoy the sea and beaches of the Costa Smeralda. Registration Details IT090063C25FOXEKXQ
