Nestled in the northern foothills of the Catskill Mountains, between Albany and Binghamton, and just 24 miles from Cooperstown, home to the Baseball Hall of Fame, this picturesque town is home to both SUNY at Oneonta and Hartwick Colleges. We’re renting our family’s “home away from home” for the first time on Airbnb. Originally purchased for our daughter and friends to live in while attending SUNY Oneonta, we fell in love with the town and have used it as a getaway from everyday life and for family holidays and parties – sort of a retreat from the busyness of Long Island and NYC. Our 19th Century Victorian home and it features: one and a half baths, 3 full bedrooms upstairs – one with two full beds, one queen sized room and one king sized room and a library with a pullout sofa downstairs off the living room. The epicenter and gathering place in the home is large country kitchen complete with dining area (with seating for 6), full size appliances including a dishwasher and microwave, and custom built in cabinetry. The first level also features a dining room and living room, a wood burning fireplace, flat screen television with premium cable and Wi-Fi throughout the home. In the warmer months the front porch (complete with rocking chairs) is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or an afternoon cocktail. The home also features a high efficiency washer & dryer. There are two staircases on each side of the house, beautifully detailed woodwork and large windows throughout letting TONS of natural sunlight in. Each season has its draws in this beautiful part of Upstate, NY. In autumn enjoy the fall foliage (Instagram opportunities abound!), Oneonta Farmer’s Market, apple & pumpkin picking, The Farmers’ Museum’s Harvest Festival, hay rides or hop aboard the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad and catch a Fall Foliage Train! Winter is snow-capped with frequent dustings of beautiful white snow. Enjoy the proximity to both Hunter and Windham mountains – roughly 60 miles, or head over to Cooperstown for the Christmas Light train and meet Santa! In the summer months, we frequently host visitors who are in town for the Cooperstown Dream Park – our home is great option for families traveling together! Anytime of year, you can find great hiking and backpacking nearby, harmonious back roads for an afternoon drive and incredible dining options! Other notable points of interest include: Fenimore Act Museum, Glimmerglass State Park, Baseball Hall of Fame, Brewery Ommegang, Cooperstown Distillery, Pail Shop Vineyards, Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchards, Bear Pond Winery, Joseph L. Popp, Jr. Butterfly Conservatory, Delaware Otsego Audubon Soc. Sanctuary, Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center…and the list goes on! Just a 5 minute walk to Main Street, 5 minute drive to SUCO or Hartwick as well as all the shopping on Route 23. Just up the mountain is the Oneonta Sportman’s Club, featuring Skeet, Sporting Clays, 5 Stand and Trap Wednesdays and Sundays. Additionally pistol and rifle ranges.
