Cottage in Swannanoa
Description
Built in 2010, Waterfall Cottage provides a romantic, comfortable, rustic retreat space in the woods perched just above a magical flowing mountain stream. Both downtown Asheville and the charming town of Black Mountain are only a 10 to 15 minute drive away. Note: While Swannanoa was hit hard by Hurricane Helene, both our property and our woodsy neighborhood community were not severely damaged. The space Our beloved Waterfall Cottage is perfect for an individual or couple who wish to experience the best of both worlds, the peaceful zen of the woods with two mountain streams coming together on our property (directly off of the back deck of the cottage) as well as having easy access to the many and varied attractions both in and around the city of Asheville. We do not consider the cottage to be a "tiny house" since it is roughly 330 square feet in size. In the main room, there is a queen-size bed as well as a small living space with a futon plus table/chairs for 2 people. Also, there is a full bathroom (from which you will have a view of our small waterfall), and a cozy galley kitchen (for simple food preparation). Your own private back deck overlooks the water. NOTE: Our property is on a well, so the water in the cottage is filtered well water, which is healthy and delicious. No need to bring in your own bottled drinking water, unless you are super picky about such things. The cottage is located on one acre of land in the Buckeye Cove Community of Swannanoa (between Asheville and Black Mountain). The "main house", where my husband Jason and I live, sits about 50 feet from Waterfall Cottage. If you like, you may also meander along the woodland path which we created along the perimeter of the property. We are eager to share our little piece of paradise with like-hearted souls! ADDITIONAL NOTES: -To get to Waterfall Cottage, you will drive a half mile on an unpaved road. While there is a small amount of incline in spots and the road is not always in the best of condition, you do not need a special type of car to get to us. I personally drive a small Prius (not an all wheel drive car). The only time when driving in our neighborhood becomes problematic is when we are dealing with significant snow accumulation on the road. -Many guests at Waterfall Cottage are not able to get a signal on their cell phone. Usually driving a short distance out of our cove will restore your cell phone signal. Wifi is available in the cottage, so if you have Wifi Calling available as part of your cell phone service, you may be able to make calls/send texts this way. Also provided: -Sheets/Towels -TV with Roku including Netflix (no broadcast cable TV service) -Air conditioning : a stand alone unit, which cools this smaller space down efficiently -Heat: a space heater plus electric baseboard heat if needed -Refrigerator (medium-size with a separate small freezer compartment) -Coffee maker(fresh local coffee and tea selection provided) -Toaster oven and Microwave oven -Blender -Two electric NuWave brand burners for cooking -Basic cookware/cooking utensils -Flatware service for 4 people, glasses, mugs, etc. -Standard staples such as dish soap, hand soap, cooking oil, sugar/honey, salt/pepper. Jason and I have been practicing massage therapists in the Asheville area since 2001. For an additional charge, you can also book a single or couples massage with us for during your visit. Massage sessions will take place on-site in Waterfall Cottage. Massage therapy rates are: $90 per 75-minute session ($180 for couples massage) $115 per 90-minute session ($230 for couples massage) (We prefer that massage sessions are scheduled ahead of time before your arrival if possible). Guest access Guests are of course free to enjoy the privacy of the cottage as well as to explore (if they so choose) the property's woodland path and/or sit on the bench next to the waterfall. A walk on the roads in our quiet, woodsy neighborhood can be delightful as well. Jason and I do not consider the main house to be a shared space, however it is totally OK if you want/need to come to our front door for any reason that may arise. We want to make ourselves as available as possible for both friendly interactions with our guests as well as for guiding guests as much or as little as is requested during their stay. I would say that, as a rule, we usually err on the side of giving guests as much privacy as may be desired. Also, guests booked for more than a 5-night stay are welcome to use the washer/dryer in the main house as needed. Access to other area attractions/amenities: Closest supermarket(Ingles) - 10min. Whole Foods/Trader Joes/Earth Fare - 15 min. Biltmore Estate - 20 min. Warren Wilson College - 10 min. Blue Ridge Parkway entrance - 10 min. Regarding our flexible check-in, I will try to accommodate guests' check-in preferences as best as I can, if an arrival time prior to 3:00 is desired. A "late" nighttime arrival presents no problem on our end. Generally speaking, it will be helpful for me to have a ballpark idea of when you will be checking in, especially the closer we get to your actual day of arrival. Other things to note We like to do our best at keeping Waterfall Cottage an acceptable environment for people who deal with allergies to cats. Please do your best to not allow either cat to come into the cottage, which neither of them are very apt to do these days anyway. No other pets are allowed on the property. As is the case in many pockets of our mountains, you may not have a cell phone signal here in the cove. U.S. and Verizon seem to do OK here, but there is no guarantee with your particular provider. We do have a landline at the main house if you have strong need to place or receive phone calls during your stay (to be used on a limited basis). We will provide you with exact directions prior to your arrival. Your GPS may get you here, but we prefer to make sure you have our homemade directions too.
