Peaceful Country Cottage

Traveling for work or pleasure? Enjoy a peaceful country view while relaxing on the front porch. This home sits on 14 acres, just off US Highway 61. Guests will see deer roaming in the yard early morning and at night. This rental accommodates families traveling with children or the couple seeking a quiet retreat. Stay here while you visit family and friends in the area. It is a short drive to Vandalia, Louisiana, Hannibal or Mark Twain Lake. (40 Min). About one hour from St. Louis. The space You will find this location a peaceful getaway no matter the season. There is very little traffic on the road, so guests are able to enjoy the sounds of nature without the noise of emergency vehicles or bothersome traffic. In spring and summer, you will see tractors, for sure. The house sits in a little nook all its own, despite being part of a 200-acre property. There is a large circle drive. If you are pulling a trailer or boat - this is the place for you. We have room for multiple vehicles if you are traveling in a group. The cottage has 3 bedrooms available; one king and two queens. Someone can sleep on the couch if they wish. There is a twin bed to the basement bedroom. (Queen plus twin in this room). It works well for your kids or grandkids. Each sleeping room has bedside USB charging available. The kitchen is fully stocked for your use. There is a griddle, toaster, microwave, crock pot, cookware and baking sheets. Ask about use of the gas BBQ grill. Coffee and tea are provided. Many guests ask to see our eagle's nest. It is a short drive from the cottage to the nest along the creek. We had two eaglets born in 2021 and but only one for 2022 and 2023. The eaglets from the previous year usually return in January. We saw the '23 baby return and have already seen the "24 baby return. Mom and Dad do not let them hang around for long since they are preparing for new eggs. We had two eggs hatch in 2024, but it appears we only have one little one for 2025. You can observe him sitting on the edge of the nest with momma nearby on a limb. All guests get a little bonus from my favorite store in Bowling Green. Listings include restaurants, groceries, shopping, sightseeing and tourist areas. Those places are also listed in the book at the cottage. We have cleared a trail through the woods behind the cottage. Bring your hiking shoes and take a walk. There is a small creek that only has water when it rains. Are you working from home? You can manage laptop tasks from the kitchen table or the beautiful desk. The cottage has high speed internet supplied by our rural electric company. If your students are enrolled online, they can do homework from here. How about that? A vacation and work rolled into one! Additional cleaning and sanitizing between guests is being done as recommended by Airbnb. This is a pet-free home. No pets have ever lived in the cottage. Consider the cottage if you have a wedding or family reunion in the area. We have hosted several wedding groups. Guests find the house is a convenient place to get ready for the wedding. Sometimes we have just the bride and groom. Occasionally we host families that are attending funerals or memorial services. Although not a pleasant event, I am honored to provide a comfortable place for families to stay. There will be specific details for the address. *** Airbnb is now collecting Missouri state sales tax. This averages $10-12 per night and is only on the lodging. There is no hotel/motel tax in our area as in some cities. Guest access Guests have access to whole house except for two storage closets. You are free to walk the property. I can show you the property boundaries. Other things to note We are located just off US Highway 61 which is sometimes known as Avenue of the Saints. (St. Paul to St. Louis) The home is also close to US Hwy. 54. We are about one hour from Columbia, MO. and 45 minutes from Quincy, IL. It's a short drive to New London, Hannibal (20 min), Louisiana or Vandalia. ****If you reserve the cottage, please check your confirmation for the specific address.
