I used to think that it was just me: I had a soft spot for our cabin because I fell in love with Fred there. But now that hundreds of guests have enjoyed the cabin as we do, I believe it. It's a sweet place to experience simple, rustic living - and loving too! Our cabin is a private, separate building in a quiet rural setting - located in the back yard of our home. It is a two story building with open rooms, full kitchen and bath - a little on the creative side but clean and everything works! Please be advised: The claw foot tub and steps in the bathroom require guests to be steady on their feet, as do the stairs to the bedroom, which are pretty steep. (see photos) A Hearthstone gas fireplace provides radiant heat and ambiance. Free WiFi is included but it is not strong enough a signal for live streaming - (it is strong enough for email and basic web browsing). Upstairs has a queen bed and a single bed with a single trundle (two singles). Downstairs couch has been deemed comfortable for sleeping by some (not me!). Only one bathroom, right on the main floor. So, depending on your comfort level with each other and openness, the cabin can sleep 4 or 5. The cabin is totally pet friendly. Your pets are free to roam outside too, based on your comfort level. There is a big yard, woods and fields right outside the door. We have a cat and chickens (that are in a fence) - but they occasionally get out so we ask that you be particularly attentive to your dogs. We do charge a $50 per pet fee. Walking and Cross country ski and snowshoe trails are right out the door. We have a little map to get your oriented. We are just a few minutes from Green River Reservoir State Park - an absolutely gorgeous area! Morrisville is just five minutes away - a good sized town with Hannafords, a great Natural Foods Coop ( Morrisville Coop) a 24 hour Price Chopper 3 Pharmacies (CVS, Kinney's and Brooks), Dunkin Donuts, McDonald's about 5 Chinese Restaurants, a 4-Plex Movie Theater, and Mobile Station and a few good places to eat and enjoy live music (see my guide book below) We are 20 minutes from Stowe, Hardwick, Craftsbury and Johnson. Stowe Mountain, Jay Peak and Smuggler's Notch Ski Areas all easy drives. 20 minutes via back road to Craftsbury Touring Center. We love our land and our home and love to share it! Sincerely, Gerette You are welcome to enjoy the yard, hammock, woods and trails all around. The parking by the split rail fences is all yours. The WiFi is a little weak, so please do not plan on doing any streaming. (Please see 'Other Things' for information Hosting during Covid 19 pandemic.) As long as you are not arriving too late, we will plan to be present to greet you. We are happy to give you all the privacy you want - and we are also happy to share with you any of our experiences and tips for enjoying the area to the fullest. Really, you get to decide how much we interact. We live in the house nearby and often times we meet, like good neighbors, in the yard or on the driveway. Our immediate neighborhood is the cabin and our yellow house that share the back yard. Our chickens are in the shed close to the cabin, our bee hives are down below the garden (don't worry - they will NOT bother you). The squirrels, fox, raccoons, deer, mice and occasional bear and moose find their home in the woods and fields nearby. Beyond our homestead, we have the best neighbors Lisa and Mary, just up the hill, through the woods. (Together, we manage the miles of trails we all get to enjoy). Davis Hill Rd is a dead end road with gorgeous views, especially at sunset, and wonderful, friendly neighbors. Green River Reservoir State Park is a three minute drive away or a long walk through the woods. When you stay here, you will understand why we love our home. Morrisville offers public bus transportation but in general, you will need your own vehicle in order to enjoy the area. You can get a bus from Morrisville (3.5 miles away) to Stowe, Waterbury and Burlington. Our driveway is not long but it is a bit steep. If you are visiting in the winter time, you will need four wheel drive or at very least: good winter tires. If you have any trouble getting up the driveway, we recommend stopping and giving us a shout. It is best if we navigate backing down hill, so as to avoid getting stuck.
