Description

Come relax at our lovingly restored historic 1873 Marlboro Farmhouse centrally located between Beacon, New Paltz, Kingston, and West Point; and close to many local farms, orchards, wineries, and fantastic hiking trails. The farmhouse is split into three separate and private units. This listing is for the spacious 1400sq. ft 2 BR/2.5 bath unit that occupies the private second floor. This is NOT a party house. The only guests allowed on the property are the ones listed on the reservation. The space Our farmhouse was built in 1873 on part of the original George Weigand homestead, settled in 1744. Nestled at the base of the Marlboro Mountains, the house is well set back from the road, with expansive lawns, a pond and meandering stream that flows through a mature birch grove. We are lovingly restoring the landscape and gardens at the heart of this historic estate, which includes wetlands hosting many different species of native bird life, and a large reservoir where migrating Canadian geese, cranes, hawks, and other birds are commonly seen. This home is filled with antiques and original details. We have lovingly curated several book collections so that you may sit in any of several sun-drenched spaces to read, relax, or enjoy conversation. The open-concept kitchen is fully stocked for your stay at the farmhouse including coffee, spices, and cook books. The master bedroom has been updated with a few modern touches and features the original floor boards, a queen bed, writing desk, vintage train trunk and fully renovated en suite. The double bedroom, complete with its own en suite, has one king and one queen bed - great for families, kids, slumber parties, girls weekend getaways, (or the snoring couples of the bunch)... There is plenty of outdoor space for grilling, picnicking, and entertainment. The backyard is large enough (over an acre) for first and second floor guests to have separate grill areas and to have a substantial amount of room for social distancing and privacy. Feel free to bring a football or Frisbee; we have croquet, horseshoes, badminton and plenty of space for other lawn games. Please Note: Due to having carpeted space in the unit we cannot accept dogs on this floor. If you would like to travel with your pup or are looking to accommodate larger groups please check out our first floor listing. *If you would like to book both 1st and 2nd floor units together please contact us with requested dates. The base nightly rate includes two guests, each additional guest is $35/person/night. We chose this pricing structure to accommodate parties of all sizes. We keep the third floor unit for ourselves and we may be at the property during your stay tending to the gardens and maintenance of the estate. We respect your privacy and space - if you'd like to chat about the property or life in general we are always welcome to warm conversation. Guest access Guests have access to the second floor unit of our home as well as full access to our expansively large private backyard complete with gas grill, charcoal BBQ, fire pit and chiminea. We also have yard games such as croquet, badminton, horseshoes, and bocce we'd be more than happy to help you set up if you'd like to play outside. Please help yourself to anything in the garden! We typically have squash and tomatoes coming out of our ears. The old pool house is slowly turning into a summer kitchen and library, you are more than welcome to take a peek - please note it is a work in progress. Please note that the first floor is a completely separate and private apartment also available on Airbnb, there may be guests staying in that unit during your stay. All of our guests are awesome!!! Feel free to join in on a game of catch, or if not, there is plenty of space to keep to yourself. We keep the third floor apartment for ourselves to stay in when we are feeling the call of the fresh Hudson Valley mountain air! Other things to note At night, there is almost no light pollution, and the stars in the sky overhead are stunning. You will hear: frogs in the pond, roosters from the farms down the road, coyotes up on the mountainside, owls in the grove of birch trees, tractors driving past, the orchard horn at noon, Canadian Geese flying overhead... and at night: silence (punctuated softly once in a while by the train whistle from across the river.)
