It has direct access to our peaceful internal courtyard and is located just below the Citadel hilltop park and only a 5 minute walk to the main square. The space Located on the ground floor of a historic manor house that dates back to the 13th century, Eleonore offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern comfort. As you step inside, you’ll be greeted by a stone stairway that leads you to a spacious open plan kitchen. This area not only encompasses the kitchen but also features a dining area and a lounge area centered around an inviting open fireplace. The modern kitchen is thoughtfully designed and equipped with a large granite workbench, offering ample space for meal preparation and culinary adventures. Just a few steps up from the lounge/dining area, you’ll find another cozy sitting room. This room provides a perfect retreat, complete with a satellite TV and a comfortable couch that can be easily transformed into a small double bed. This additional space serves as an ideal extra bedroom, especially for families with children. Continuing through the lounge/dining room, you’ll discover the main double bedroom featuring a king size bed and an en suite bathroom. Additionally, guests have access to internal courtyard, where they can relax on outdoor lounges, use the BBQ, and take in the tranquil surroundings as they dine around greenery. The courtyard also houses a small library with travel books and maps from the region, providing valuable resources for exploring the area. As an added convenience, a guest laundry is available to all guests, ensuring that you can easily refresh your wardrobe during your stay. Guest access There is plenty of free parking near the apartments and it is possible to drive to the bottom of rue St Mary to unload luggage. The apartments are located in a charming stone house which stands in a quiet cobble stoned street and leads to the Citadel where a 13th century castle once stood. Today the Notre Dame de Provence Chapel stands in its place and commands a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside. The Citadel, as the hill is passionately known by the locals, is a real ‘green oases in the centre of town and a beautiful spot for an early morning or evening stroll. Guests can use the inner courtyard, no other apartment from ours has access to it. There is a laundry for guests use and we also have a little library with books and maps of the area which are at your disposal during your stay. Other things to note Forcalquier has a population of 5,000 and from the Apartments it is a 5 minute walk to the centre of town. Here you can buy everything you need for your stay in Forcalquier. There are numerous bakers, a butcher, various organic shops, pastry and chocolate shop, 1 small supermarket, delis and very good cheese and wine shop (there are also 2 large Supermarkets at each end of the town) 3 banks, Post Office, 2 chemists and a news agency. Of course there are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. We have a list of the ones we recommend! Of course one of the big attractions of Forcalquier is the Monday morning market. It is renowned as being one of the most colorful in Provence and of course one can do the weekly shopping direct from the producers. There is an enormous range of food available - local cheeses, fruit and vegetables, organic breads, herbs and spices, fresh fish from Marseille, Provencal fabrics and pottery etc. Bicycles can also be hired in town. The region of Forcalquier is famous for its wonderful cycling route which will take you to Cavaillon near Avignon, a distance of around 100 kms. Otherwise, there are plenty of quiet roads that are suitable for cycling tours. We can tell you the best ones according to your desires. There are also 500 kms of marked hiking trails in the area. The area forms a square bordered by two mountain ranges to the north and south and by two rivers to the east and west. The wide variety of landscapes adapted by both the continental climate of the Alps and the southern Mediterranean climate make it an ideal place for walking. We will be happy to advise you on the routes. Sorry, no parties and no pets. For late check-ins from 9pm onwards there will be an extra 20€ surcharge, and 50€ surcharge after midnight.
