KUBO : FantailSuite [Self-Contained Hilltop Haven]

Gazing over the Ruapehu plateau, KUBO is our little house on a hill with the private Fantail Suite — a tranquil haven where time slows, and nature feels close. Enjoy coffee in the lounge at sunrise, watch golden sunsets from the deck, or stargaze under clear mountain skies. Between Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks, it’s close to ski fields, hiking, and biking trails. NO CLEANING FEE. The space The 25sqm Fantail Suite is a cozy retreat for couples, yet can welcome up to four guests. Connected to the main house but with its own private deck and entrance, it offers both comfort and privacy. Step outside and take in partial mountain views with no light pollution — a perfect stage for stargazing on a clear night. The lounge invites you to curl up with a book, play a board game, or enjoy a movie on the Smart TV. The kitchenette has everything for light meals — mini fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, and plug-in cooker — with coffee, tea, sugar, salt, and pepper ready for you. The bedroom features a king bed with an electric blanket, separated by a sliding partition that can open to create a more airy, open space. The modern ensuite bathroom has gas-heated water ensuring long, relaxing showers. The suite is fully insulated with double-glazed windows and heaters to keep you cozy. A ladder from the lounge leads to a loft with a queen futon, perfect for two extra people (not recommended for very young children). If your booking is for 3 guests, we’ll have the loft bed set up for you. From every window, let your eyes wander over rolling hills and sun-dappled paddocks, where the gentle rhythm of rural life meets peaceful quiet — a place to pause, breathe, and simply be. Guest access The suite is all yours, with its own entrance and deck. Enjoy the views from the deck or climb the tyre steps to Puketiti Lookout for panoramic sights of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe, and Mt Hauhungatahi on a clear day. Other things to note • The house is on a hill with a 120m sloped, unsealed road to drive. Parking for 1 car is next to the deck; additional parking is down by the gate. • The drive up the hill can be challenging for campervans, so we suggest parking by the gate and walking up. • A small cabin on the other side of the parking area at the top of the hill may have 1-2 guests. You may come across them in the parking area or at the Puketiti Lookout so we do ask you to respect their privacy during your stay. • If your booking is for 3-4 guests, we’ll have the futon bed set up for you. • A sound-insulated wall with a locked door separates the suite from our home. Occasional faint sounds may be heard. • Quiet hours: 11 pm–6 am. The town local siren is tested at 8 am daily. • Firewood shelving is for your use (5–7 pieces); extra wood is $30 per shelf module. • Rural area: flying insects may appear near windows/door in humid months. • During summer days, occasional noise may come from a small family-run mill at the bottom of the hill.
