Millbrook Cottage Shepherd's Hut

Our shepherd's hut is beautiful and unique as it has been designed and hand built entirely by us here on the premises. It is on the edge of our property near a country lane and surrounded by gunnera, ash, willow and alder. Tranquil does not begin to describe it! Perfect for one or two people getting away from it all. You should have the space to yourself as we try to provide for one group at a time, but there may be others staying in our yurt at the start or end of your stay (July/August). The space You will be in a part of our garden which is peaceful and secluded, accessed via its own bridge over a delightful stream which runs close by the shepherd's hut. We have built a lovely kitchen in the hut - basic but equipped with all you should need to make tea and cook basic meals. We do not provide any cooking ingredients (such as oil, salt and pepper). There is a 2-ring gas hob and a sink but no running water - we will provide you with a container of tap water for your stay. Lighting in the hut runs off a battery so we ask that guests are mindful of the power and water they use. There is no fridge but you can access one up near the house or bring a coolbox and use our freezer to freeze ice packs. The stream also makes a very nice fridge for beers and milk! There is an outdoor wood burner on the veranda and a wood store and you are welcome to collect the wood that you find around you. It's not an endless supply so we appreciate it when guests buy wood if they intend burning a lot. Near to the shepherd's hut there is a composting toilet in its own building with a lovely outdoor heated shower. This facility is shared with our Mongolian yurt which is in a separate area of the garden and has its own bridge. Guest access You will be able to park nearby the shepherd's hut. Our house is up the driveway (past the yurt which we also rent out) and you can access electricity, running water and fridge space there in our studio space which is separate to the house. Other things to note We are hidden away but once you have booked you will find detailed directions on how on find us. Our gate isn't wide although a van can access it - just take care! The hut measures 14 feet by 7 feet and the bed is built-in so the wonderful comfy memory foam mattress fits very snugly - it is a small double, 6 foot in length so tall people, be warned! Please note: we do not provide any personal towels so you will need to bring your own hand, bath and beach towels. If you are bringing a dog, please bring a dog basket; please also do not let your dog on to the bed/bedding as it is a nightmare getting rid of hairs! We have chickens and cats so it is appreciated if dogs don't scare the life out of them!
