This beautifully restored Elizabethan manor house is situated in Riber, a tiny hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales. Riber is situated high on a hill overlooking Matlock; boasting some of the most dramatic views in Derbyshire. The guest suite has a four poster bed, luxury bathroom and the continental breakfast is served in the 15th century oak panelled dining room. The space The hidden secrets of Riber Hall Manor. Built by the Ribergh family dating from the 1400s, this Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house was home to the Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall Manor was documented as being a royalist household (However recent research suggests otherwise!). It is rumoured that a secret passageway exists from Riber Hall Manor to Dethick where the Babington’s lived. Anthony Babington was an English nobleman who was convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth 1st of England and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall Manor and indeed one of our bedrooms would suggest this. In 1724 this manor house was owned by the Chappel family and by 1730 two sisters divided it into two halves. One half of this romantic home was previously a highly regarded country house hotel namely Riber Hall Hotel. Both sides are still today independent of each other with their own different businesses. So here is your opportunity to stay in Riber Hall Manor which was bought by us, the Gent family in 2004. You will be personally met by myself, Alison the owner, so here is your opportunity to stay in Riber Hall Manor and enjoy the history that we love to share.
