Description

A unique opportunity to stay in one of Derbyshire’s historic country homes, Riber Hall Manor. Riber Hall Manor dates from the 1400’s. This beautifully restored Elizabethan manor house is situated in Riber, a tiny hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales. Riber is situated high on a hill overlooking Matlock; boasting some of the most dramatic views in Derbyshire. The guest suite has a four poster bed, luxury bathroom and the continental breakfast is served in the 15th century oak panelled dining room. The space The hidden secrets of Riber Hall Manor. Built by the Ribergh family dating from the 1400s, this Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house was home to the Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall Manor was documented as being a royalist household (However recent research suggests otherwise!). It is rumoured that a secret passageway exists from Riber Hall Manor to Dethick where the Babington’s lived. Anthony Babington was an English nobleman who was convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth 1st of England and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall Manor and indeed one of our bedrooms would suggest this. In 1724 this manor house was owned by the Chappel family and by 1730 two sisters divided it into two halves. One half of this romantic home was previously a highly regarded country house hotel namely Riber Hall Hotel. Both sides are still today independent of each other with their own different businesses. So here is your opportunity to stay in Riber Hall Manor which was bought by us, the Gent family in 2004. Being a family home, we the owners are personally able to offer a bespoke service and greet all guests. You will be personally met by myself, Alison the owner, so here is your opportunity to stay in Riber Hall Manor and enjoy the history that we love to share. Guest access Guests have access to their suite with its genuine antique furniture. The continental breakfast is in the oak panelled breakfast room. Guests also have access to The Secret Walled Garden where there is outdoor seating and tables available. During your stay All guests are personally greeted. Other things to note The continental breakfast includes tea, coffee, apple juice, orange juice, toast, marmalade, fresh fruit, yogurt and cereals. Gluten free/vegan can be catered for although we do not recommend consumption of our gluten free foods for guests with celiac disease. While Gluten free ingredients are available it does not mean that these are gluten free. Please note: Unfortunately this historic building is NOT suitable for anyone with mobility issues. There are many stairs and the staircase is original hence it is uneven. This historic building is also NOT suitable for children due to health and safety issues and antique furniture.
