This Georgian farmhouse occupies an elevated position offering stunning views to Auchencairn Bay, Hestan Island and beyond to the Lake District. Ideal for golfers with close proximity to many courses, all within an hours drive, including the championship links course Southerness which is 35 minutes away. The south west of Scotland is well known for its beautiful scenery, mild climate and excellent sailing. Some of the finest beaches in Scotland are found along the Solway coast. The space Georgian farmhouse with stunning coastal views. Bed and breakfast accommodation in a private suite within the house, parts of which date to the C17th. Surrounded by 20 acres of its own farmland, it is a rural and peaceful stop over. Plenty of parking at the house. The private suite is accessed through its own entrance on the ground floor via a wide open patio. From the patio sweeping lawns open to stunning views over Auchencairn Bay, Hestan Island and across the Solway Firth to the Lake District. Benches, tables and chairs on the patio allow guests to relax with afternoon tea or a sundowner and enjoy the view. The suite offers plenty of space including a bedroom, with king size bed, en suite shower room and separate toilet, a small pantry/kitchen area and a separate room with a dining table and chairs. The pantry is furnished with sink, fridge (with small freezer), kettle, toaster and microwave. All crockery etc provided. The property is set amongst the rolling farm land of South West Scotland, just outside the village of Auchencairn in Dumfries and Galloway. The market town of Castle Douglas is 8 miles, the fishing and “Artists Town” of Kircudbright 12 miles away. Kipford, well known for sailing during the summer months is a 20 minute drive. Auchencairn has a small village shop, occasional post office and adjoining cafe. It also provides evening take away meals 6 days a week. The shop sells organic milk and beef from a local Auchencairn farm. Historic sites nearby include Dundrennan Abbey; Orchardton tower; Threave Castle and Gardens; Sweetheart Abbey; MacLellan Castle. A 25 minute drive will take you to Dumfries. Visit JM Barrie’s home, Moat Brae, where he was inspired to write Peter Pan or Robert Burns’ house - check online for opening times. The newly refurbished Globe Inn, Burns’ old watering hole, serves dinner in the evenings and has a room dedicated to Robert Burns paraphernalia. Atmospheric and excellent food. Scotland’s ‘first and last’ distillery (as you arrive from England, or leave from Scotland by car!) Annandale, near Annan is worth a visit. 50 minutes from Auchencairn. It is a refurbishment of the old Johnny Walker distillery which closed in 1908. They have an excellent visitor centre and cafe and offer distillery tours. For the energetic, a walk up Screel or Bengairn Hills will reward hikers with a stunning view across Auchencairn Bay and the Solway Firth. Sea cliff walks and the beaches of Balcary Bay are a 5 minute drive away. Guests are also welcome to explore the woods and grounds of the house. Guest access Guests can enjoy our garden and woods. There is plenty of space to walk and enjoy the views and there are several benches within the gardens if you wish to sit and relax.
