Welcome to The Crafty Bird Nest! This 100-year-old remodeled basement apartment is in beautiful south Minneapolis. It's conveniently located just 10 minutes to the airport and 5 blocks to the Metro Blue Line. You can get to most places of interest within 20+ minutes. This cozy space features a gas-burning fireplace, an equipped kitchen, a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower and a comfy queen bed. It's perfect for either a few nights or longer stays for family/friend visits, getaways or work. This space is designed with character from the craftsman era but also with many modern updates. The suite is especially well suited for longer visits for work or transitions to the Twin Cities. In addition to all of the amenities listed below, I allow you to use my laundry facilities in my private residence when you need a home away from home for 2 weeks or longer. For safety, all bedding and towels are sanitized. You'll find many one-of-a-kind handcrafted items throughout the space to give it a unique touch. Yet, the entire suite offers all of the modern conveniences you desire, including: • The fastest fiber WiFi available • USB ports in many of the outlets • Plenty of lighting with dimmer switches • Roku TV with Netflix, Hulu and other streaming apps • Outdoor security cameras, motion outdoor lighting and wired smoke/carbon monoxide detectors for safety • Gas fireplace controlled by remote control • Echo Dot so you can get the latest updates from Alexa and listen to free music on Pandora • If you have accounts with Shipt, Instacart or Walmart, you can have your groceries delivered to you directly and even have them waiting before you arrive (just let us know to expect them). With the kitchen, you can do your own cooking or warm up take-out leftovers. We have supplied cooking oil, salt/pepper, sugar/honey/sugar substitute, flour, coffee tea and hot chocolate. The kitchen features all of the cooking supplies and appliances you will need. The refrigerator is subcompact size; the freezer is only about 4" high. If there is something more you require, just ask. The spa-like bathroom has a large walk-in glass shower, plenty of towels, complimentary spa-quality shampoo/conditioner/body wash and good water pressure! The bedroom features a headboard made from 100-year-old wood taken from the only original wall in the basement. The large window lets in plenty of sunshine and can be opened for fresh air. The bedroom includes: • Queen-size mattress that is medium/firm and designed to keep you cool while you sleep. The higher bed height allows plenty of space to store your luggage below. • 2 pillows plus 2 additional pillows and extra blankets in the closet to find your perfect one • Large organized closet and built-in cabinet • Iron, ironing board and Downy Wrinkle Releaser • 2 nightstands with USB ports in nearby outlets • Noise machine • Space heater • Oscillating fan When the weather is nice, we invite you to enjoy our fenced-in backyard with relaxing furniture, fire pit, dining area and a few fun activities. If there is anything more you would require during your stay, please do not hesitate to request it in advance or while you're here. Check-in time is any time after 3 pm - you will get your own code to the keyless door lock and instructions on how to enter by yourself whether I'm here or not, asleep or awake. Check-out time is by 11 am. If you need flexibility in your arrival or departure times, please let me know. As you're planning your trip, a great website to find out what is going on in the Twin Cities is www. CityPages.com. Coming and going is very easy with our code lock. You will receive your own unique code to enter the back door. First check to make sure the door isn't already open. If not, then enter your 4-digit code and the small checkmark in the lower left corner. To lock the door when you leave, simply close the door and push any of the buttons to have the automatic lock activated. We share the same entrance door, but you will not go into our living space, and we will not go into yours. I work out of our home, so I'm available most of the time. If not, I'm a quick text or call away. During the beautiful days and evenings, we often are out in the backyard. You're always welcome to join us! My younger son has Down Syndrome and a speech delay. You may occasionally hear him galloping or dancing upstairs, but I try to keep it at a minimum while guests are here. Our neighborhood is a well established, diverse community. It is safe and easy to walk to a grocery store, restaurants, post office, library and other resources. Within 10 minutes you can walk to Minnehaha Falls, a beloved natural landmark in Minneapolis. We have many walking and biking paths (you can rent bikes by Minnehaha Falls) and other parks that are particularly good for kids. There are lakes to visit, Fort Snelling for a dose of history and many nearby restaurants to check out. You can get to most places of interest in the Twin Cities within 20-30 minutes. Whether you're driving or flying to Minneapolis, our central location will make it easy and quick to get around the Twin Cities. We offer free street parking where you can quickly jump onto Hwy. 62 or Hwy. 55 to get to your next destination. If you don't have a car, the Metro Blue Line is a 10-minute walk away for easy access to the airports, Mall of America and downtown Minneapolis - and from there you can catch the Green Line to downtown St. Paul. We're only 1/2 block away from the bus line. And Uber/Lyft are continually cruising around for a quick ride. We are all fully vaccinated, and we ask that you are as well. The exterior of our home just went through a major overhaul. There are still unfinished projects around the house and yard, so please excuse any mess or inconvenience. While I've invested a lot in soundproofing between the floors, you'll still hear some squeaks and footsteps above due to 100-year-old floors. We do our best to be quiet and go to bed at respectable hours but we can't avoid you hearing our footsteps and other noises from family noise. We are generally up and moving about 7:15 am on school mornings and go to bed about 10:30 pm on school nights. On weekends, we sleep in a little later and also stay up a little later. In older homes, they didn't make the basements very deep (and they were shorter back then), so if you are tall, you will need to watch your head as you get to the bottom of the stairs. There is also a point in the space under a vent where the clearance is only 6' 2". The space is completely private, however, we want you to understand that there is not a separate door to close off and lock the entire guest suite from the rest of our home. Our living space doesn't have a private door either. There are curtains that you can close if you desire more peace of mind, and you'll notice a curtain that separates our private living space. You have complete privacy when you come and go, but we also use the exterior door. Despite all of that, you'll be amazed at how completely removed and independent you will feel. The bathroom and bedroom doors both have locks. And don't worry about making noise as you come and go; we don't hear it if we're sleeping. Please keep the exterior door locked when you leave and stay for periods longer than 5 minutes.
