Welcome to our two holiday homes offering private accommodation in a large garden right on the beach. We reside in an exceptionally quiet neighbourhood in one of the most beautiful parts of the south coast of the island. Having access to a balcony or terrace, each room has an ensuite bathroom with a toilet. There are two fully equipped kitchens., free wifi and drinking water. The garden offers a fabulous environment for relaxation for which you can freely use sunbeds and hammocks. Tropical Garden includes two holiday homes - the Villa Bougainvillea (one double room, two triple rooms, plus two extra beds for children, if required kitchen) and the Lotus Lodge (double room with kitchen). Villa Bougainvillea Located on the ground floor, the roomy kitchen is equipped with a big refrigerator and freezer, gas stove and all utensils for cooking and eating. Drinking water is provided free of charge to our guests in a dispenser. You can borrow books and guides. A comfortable seating arrangement with a communal table and chairs is in front of the kitchen on the terrace with a view of the garden. A convenient outdoor shower to clean off sand after the beach and a toilet are behind the kitchen. Next to the kitchen is the double room with a separate entrance from the terrace and a view of the garden and the lagoon. The seating arrangement for two can be separated from the rest of the terrace by a folding screen to bestow a sense of privacy. The room with a double bed (170 cm) protected by an indispensable mosquito net (a sleeper barrier protection against bites from mosquitos) is slightly smaller than the other rooms in the villa. A ceiling fan to cool the room down to a pleasant temperature is a matter of course. Small belongings can be stored on bedside tables, clothes will find their place on open shelves or on hangers. As all rooms in the villa, the double room has its bathroom with a shower and toilet. After climbing the stairs from the shared kitchen, you will get on a huge balcony with a breath-taking view of the garden and the ocean. Adjoined to both sides of the stairway and the same in size and equipment, the two spacy triple rooms are mirror opposites of each other. You will find there a double bed (180 cm) and one single bed (90 cm), both protected by a mosquito net and a ceiling fan, of course. Both rooms can accommodate a baby’s cot or an extra bed for a smaller child. The rooms can be interconnected and, by doing that, the whole floor can serve as a two-bedroom suite. You can store your things on bedside tables, shelves and open cabinets, and also hang your clothes on hangers. Each room is equipped with a bathroom with a hand-wash basin, a shower and a toilet with a bidet shower. Lotus Lodge The Lotus Lodge is closer to the beach and the ocean can be viewed from both the balcony and the window. The ground floor accommodates a smaller fully equipped outdoor kitchen with a dining table and a seating arrangement. The only room is on the first floor. The entrance is from the balcony where a seating arrangement for two invites to enjoy the breath-taking view of the beach and the ocean. The room is furnished with a double bed (170 cm) and you can store your belongings on open shelves and hang your clothes on hangers. Also here, a mosquito net, ceiling fan, bathroom with a hot water shower, a toilet with a bidet shower and a hand-wash basin are a matter of course. Moreover, the Lotus Lodge has its outdoor shower. Garden The garden is pleasantly shaded by full-grown coconut palms and offers a fabulous environment for relaxation. Enjoy these precious moments on the balconies or terrace or use freely our sunbeds and hammocks. You can use both homes and the garden. Our guests and their comfort are taken care of directly on the site by Anke, our German friend who lives with her husband next door to Tropical Garden. She speaks English and German. Our holiday homes are located in a large tropical garden. Take one step out of the gate and you will find yourselves directly on the endless Madilla Beach lending itself to long strolls, sunbathing, shelling and, of course, bathing and swimming. What needs to be born in mind is that the southern coast of the island is washed by the Indian Ocean. Thus the water is rough. Swimming right in front of Tropical Garden is dangerous because of strong undercurrents. However, just a couple of minutes’ walk on the beach or the adjacent road will take you to safe spots. There you can enjoy bathing without any worries. We recommend the spots protected by breakwaters not more than a 10-15 minutes’ walk on the beach or the road (from Tropical Garden in the direction of the town). In the opposite direction, you can find a beautiful and safe spot in a small bay. Delightful and safe bathing can be enjoyed on nearby Goyambokka, Pallikudawa Beaches, Silent Beach, Rekawa Beach and others. All of them are reachable by tuk-tuk within a couple of minutes. We reside in an exceptionally quiet neighbourhood at the very end of a coast road which will take you to the city. After a nice walk or a short tuk-tuk ride, you will find there everything you need: from stalls and bistros selling local snacks, through the fruit and vegetables market, clothes and gift stores, to banks, ATMs and “western-style” supermarkets. In the closest vicinity of Tropical Garden, there are several smaller resorts and restaurants, all of which can be strongly recommended. In return for a fee, swimming pools can be used in the neighbouring resorts. The bus station is located in the centre of Tangalle in a walking distance from Tropical Garden . The most popular transport for tourists is taxi however. Renting a car without driver is not very common in Sri Lanka but taxis (vans with driver/guide for more people) is not expensive. We can arrange a driver on your request. In Tangalle you can use tuk-tuks (motorised three-wheelers) or rent a motorbike. Tropical Garden was chosen and developed to be a holiday home for our family and friends. We always try our best and endeavour to make our guests feel at home at Tropical Garden. And that is why we offer everything you need for a peacefull holiday. Our fully equipped kitchen will be appreciated by both passionate cooks, and those who will use the fridges just to cool some fruit juice or local beer. Drinking water and, of course, WiFi connection is available 24/7 for all in-house guests. The cleaning service including changing of towels and bed sheets is done after three days and you can also ask Anke for laundry service (charged service, the price list on the spot). We are at a convenient distance from the city that can be easily walked or covered in a couple of minutes by tuk-tuk to do groceries in a local market or a “western-style” supermarket, to withdraw cash from an ATM and so on. We have nice neighbours and loads of great restaurants all around us, but no huge hotel resorts.
