Description
The fully updated guestrooms in the historic Bush House Inn provide a comfortable mountain getaway in scenic Index. Just over an hour from Seattle (or east to Leavenworth), it is the perfect destination for exploring the beauty and recreation of the Skykomish Valley and Stevens Pass. We are located 1 block from the General Store, post office, Outdoor Adventure Center, River House coffee shop, museum, riverfront and a short drive (or walk) to hikes, bouldering and climbing at the Index Town Wall! The space The 1898 Bush House Inn is located in the community of Index, WA . Listed on national, state, and county registries as a historic place, the Bush House Inn retains its historic charm and appearance, while featuring many thoughtful updates. Recently renovated, the guestrooms are now available for lodging, and the events spaces and restaurant are nearing completion. Other things to note The Bush House Inn was built near the Index train stop - a desirable location that allowed Ella and Clarence Bush the opportunity to provide lodging and meals for weary travelers - in addition to serving many laborers who worked in the mines, mills, and quarries surrounding the small town. While the train depot building (and train stop) are gone, the trains still roll through Index throughout the day and night, offering a visible (and audible!) reminder of the important role that the railroad played when Amos and Persis Gunn selected this location for their homestead and townsite. The Bush House is well insulated (much more so than when it was built in 1898), but you'll still hear the trains as they pass through town. If you happen to see the Amtrak passenger trains (generally 8am and 6pm) be sure to wave! The passengers are often treated to a short story about Index as they travel by.
