The Outlier Inn is a bucolic 12-acre farm in New York state’s southern Catskill mountains, 90 miles from NYC. The Inn offers a peaceful and inspiring respite from life in the Big City. We have sheep, goats, alpacas, and chickens which are accessible to guests! Please visit our website to view our Local Guide. The dome is an incredible "Glamping" space and includes one full bed with bedding. Additional guests must bring air mattresses, cots, camping air pads, sleeping bags, pillows and towels. There is a wooden floor in the dome and screen windows for airflow and to keep out bugs. For an extra fee the Dome can be used for workshop space, shoots, rehearsal space, or sleep over parties :) For guests who stay in the dome, there are outdoor double hot showers, a sink, and a claw foot bathtub. Also, a complete outdoor kitchen and grill, fridge, sink, and big fire pit are available for your use. We are located on a farm in beautiful Sullivan County, close to Bethel Woods, the Catskill Park, Neversink Unique Area and Sam's Point. There are many animals on the farm. Merino sheep, angora goats, alpacas, oberhasli dairy goats, chickens (running free so please leash dogs!), two cats and a dog named Beulah. We have a greenhouse and vegetable garden, a pond for doggies to go swimming, and a lake across the street. There is a full-service recording studio on the premises as well as a fiber arts workshop space. The wool from our alpacas is shorn and hand-spun into winter accessories. In June, a vintage clothing store is opening on the property. Check out is no later than noon on Sunday as there is a weekly yoga class at 12:30. It is donation based and anyone may join. Bring a mat! Guests are encouraged to explore the 12 acre property, relax by the pond, cuddle the alpacas, sheep, and goats, and go for a hike on the 6 mile rails-to-trails path across the street. There is access to a communal outdoor fire pit (wood is available for purchase), a 6 burner outdoor stove and grill, a hot double outdoor shower and an outhouse. High-speed internet is provided free of charge. It only works closer to the main houses, so you may have to sit outside to access it. Download those movies! We recommend stopping for groceries on your way. (If you're driving from the city, the Green Earth in Wurtsboro is an excellent stop!) Our own eggs and vegetables are available for purchase. Price per night does not include breakfast. We will welcome you and give you a tour of the property upon your arrival. If you will be arriving at a late hour, we will greet you in the morning! If you have any questions about the property please ask. Sullivan County was the site of hundreds of Borscht Belt hotels and resorts, which had their heyday from the 1920s through the 1970s. When air travel became more attainable, the area's tourist industry declined and left many camps and resorts vacant. Recently, many artists and small farmers have moved into the area and are working to bring it back culturally and economically. The county is extremely diverse with a mixed population that is similar to that of the South Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. The natural offerings given by this area are prized by residents. There are hikes that will lead you to rivers, waterfalls and look-out points. Lakes are everywhere and offer great fresh water swimming. The Basha Kill wetland is the largest wetland (over 3,000 acres) in southeastern New York and is home to a diverse population of wildlife and plants. Many beautiful and sustainable farms are close-by and welcome visitors. Information can be found in the guidebook. We recommend renting a car to get to the property. It is the easiest method of transportation and gives you the freedom to explore the natural offerings of the area. The Neversink Unique Area, Sam's Point, and many farms and farmers markets are close-by and make great day trips. If public transportation is the only option, you can take the New Jersey Transit to Otisville, NY (you can make a stop at our favorite raw milk dairy on the way!) and then take a taxi to Woodridge. A one-way train ticket costs $18.50. Four Eigths Transportation is the taxi service available in Otisville. The estimated taxi cost is around $50. We recommend calling to pre-arrange your pick-up. The Shortline Bus from Penn Station stops in Monticello and also makes a few stops in Woodridge. Tickets cost around $30 each way. Bus schedule NY to Monticello: 8am, 10:15am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm, 4:30pm, 6:30pm, 8:30pm, 11pm Monticello to NY: 5am, 6am, 8am, 10:30am, 1pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm, 10pm NY to Woodridge: 1:15pm, 2:30pm, 3:10pm, 4:30pm Woodridge to NY: 7am, 9:30am, 5:15pm We can pick you up in Woodridge, but if you arrive into Monticello we suggest calling Yellow Cab to bring you to the farm. If you want to relax in a rural environment and experience a food-based, makers community then this is the place for you. The property has multiple dwellings and many shared spaces. We often host yoga retreats and have musicians recording in our full music studio. Please ask us if you would like to know what is happening during your stay.
