Generals Cottage, Wye Valley, Monmouthshire, Wales
Generals Cottage, Wye Valley, Monmouthshire, Wales
Description
In a secluded area of the Wye valley, The Generals Cottage is very near Penallt village. It's a mix of old stone cottage with modern refurbishments including a wood burner in the lounge / dining room, modern kitchen, bathroom and two double bedrooms. All accommodation is on the upper floor and accessed via a short stone step way in its front garden. Next to the cottage is a private stone walled garden, with a stream running through. And also private woodlands, all for guest use. The space The Generals Cottage nestles in private woodlands within the Wye Valley area of outstanding natural beauty and next to woodlands of special scientific interest. Centuries ago the woodlands were the centre of an industry that provided stone grinding wheels sent by boats or barges on the river Wye to all over the world. Now the woodlands are the homes of fallow deer and various protected species of animals. The many wonderful sounds guests regularly comment on are the calls of owls and the running stream nearby which in the 12th century powered a small mill for corn grinding. Guest access The woodlands are part of The Generals Cottage property so guests are welcome to explore them. The old mill house has a mill pond area which is now a walled garden with stream running through. Guests are invited to use this area as their garden next to the cottage. The ground floor of the cottage is used as a home office by the host on occasion. It has its own private door entrance. Other things to note The cottage is very near walks that take keen ramblers all around the Wye Valley. Also there are opportunities for many other days out such as canoeing on the Wye (for all ages!), cycling on the special trails in the Forest of Dean, just listening to the woodlands or gazing at the stars with only moon light as an ‘alternative’.
