Description
Pohara is the centre of the bays area, with cafes, bars, the beach & a shop, all a mere 2 minutes stroll away! A great place for long walks & don't forget the fishing! Takaka is a 10 minute drive to banks, supermarket, restaurants & shops. The house is fully equipped, including towels & linen (& beach towels). The perfect year-round destination, with so many activities available within a short drive. The space Welcome to our modern, light and comfortable retreat. Here we have everything you need for your next holiday! The living and dining area is open plan, with a cosy entertainment area with TV and stereo at one end, the dining table and chairs in the centre, close to the kitchen, and another relaxing space with 2 couches and a coffee table at the other end. The french doors next to this area open onto the deck with BBQ and picnic table. The kitchen is a long U shaped area with plenty of bench space. There is an oven and ceramic cook top, fidge/freezer, dishwasher and kitchen appliances such as microwave, toaster, kettle, toasted sandwich maker and electric whisk. The washing maching is also in the kitchen at the open end. When it spins, the floor vibrates, which most people find amusing. It is because the house is raised on wooden piles, as are all the houses in this area by the sea. Swimming at Pohara beach is wonderful for children because the water is very shallow and warm until further out from the beach, with a very gradual depth increase, perfect for the little ones to play & swim safely. The beach is a favourite for long walks in the late afternoon or early evening. After a busy day exploring all that Golden Bay (so called because of it's lovely golden sand) has to offer, forget the hustle & bustle and relax and take it easy in this peaceful, sunny, well equipped holiday home. It is possible that you may be lucky enough to have a visit from the native Weka birds during your stay. They are responsible for the occasional vegatative debris on the paths from the garden edge, and are charming and gregarious, but please don't feed them. A fabulous place to come and relax in any season, perfect for a winter escape due to the mild climate, which is more like autumn than winter. The house is cosy & private with fully fenced section for the little ones, and everything is only a short walk or drive away. Plenty of room to park the boat, and we have an outside stainless sink for preparing the fish too! The fishing out from Port Tarakohe just around the corner is excellent, with many varieties caught, including blue cod, snapper & gurnard, to name a few. The boat ramp is only minutes away, and we ask that you please wash the boat down while at ramp, as we only have the 1 tank for all water). if you don't have a boat, there is a charter available for hire in the area. A recommendation is a trip to Anatoki Salmon Farm. Here you can catch a salmon or two from the lake, then have it smoked with your preference of marinade for lunch or take it home. Why not pack a picnic of some bread and your favourite salads, or pick some up from the supermarket to enjoy with your delicious salmon! There is also food and drinks available on site to purchase. If planning on having lunch, I would recommend coming a couple of hours prior to your preferred eating time, to allow for catching the fish and then the smoking process. There is also plenty of art & crafts and tours to enjoy, so you can spend the days exploring, or simply chill out with a beverage. We have many brochures set out on the occasional table in the living area, so you may peruse some of the attractions in the area. The possibilities here are endless! Guest access The section is all flat, and the steps to the house are wide and low. There is plenty of parking space also. With the entire house and front & back lawns, there is plenty of space to enjoy ~ kick a ball around or have a BBQ on the deck. Other things to note The ironing board is located in the cupboard at the end of the hall-way, which also contains the hot water cylinder. We have a carry cot, portacot and high chair available if you are travelling with an infant.
