Description of the island of Rügen and the village of Groß Zicker: The village of Groß-Zicker on the Mönchgut peninsula in the southeast of the island of Rügen is partially listed as a monument. Most of the houses are thatched. The picturesque little town is located on the Bodden (mudflat) and is about 2 km from the kilometer-long snow-white Baltic Sea beaches. There is a normal beach, a dog beach and a nudist beach. The historic village street of Groß-Zicker has been renewed in natural paving to preserve the historic character of the thatched houses enclosed in stone walls under the shade of chestnuts. Worth seeing in the village is the parish widow's house built in 1723, the small fishing port and the old village church with a wooden bell tower. The fishing village of Groß Zicker is nestled between the Baltic Sea, the large thatched areas, wide salt meadows, short grass pastures and the "Zickerschen Mountains". These wooded mountain ranges are one of the most peculiar landscapes in Germany and a wonderful hiking area. Mönchgut peninsula: This peninsula, located in the southeastern part of the island of Rügen, is called "Mönchgut" because it was cultivated by monks in the Middle Ages and was separated from the main island by a water ditch. This part of West Rügen with the hilly lagoon/mudflat landscape with kilometers of sandy beaches, forest bike and hiking trails is breathtaking and was not declared a biosphere reserve for nothing. Today it is one of the most popular holiday regions on the island. If you want to have something more lively, the seaside resorts of Baabe, Göhren, Sellin and the urban Binz are not far away. Many hiking trails lead through beautiful small villages such as Thiessow, Klein Zicker, Gager pp. the small fishing ports, to the Stone Age tombs or simply along the Baltic Sea. In the village, there are several restaurants. Within a radius of about 5 km there are about 20 other restaurants Leisure - Excursions - Sports: Worth seeing in the village is the parish widow's house built in 1723 in Groß Zicker, the small harbor and the old village church with a wooden bell tower. Rügen is an island for all seasons, whether a beach vacation in summer on the long sandy beaches or enjoyment in spring when the poppy fields and rapeseed bloom, as well as in mild autumn with extensive hikes in one of the national parks through the yellow and red colored forests on the chalk coast. Many hiking trails lead through the picturesque village of Groß Zicker into the Zickerschen mountains, to the villages of Gager pp. the small fishing ports, Thiessow, Klein Zicker, Alt - Reddevitz, or to the Stone Age tombs or even just along the beach on the Baltic Sea. Land and sea are closely intertwined in Mönchgut. Peninsulas, headlands and coastal projections were connected by garland-like strips of land. Visit the adventure pool Captain Memo in Binz, especially for children "Karls Erlebnisdorf" in Zirkow, ride the "Rasenden Roland", a historic steam railway that runs from Baabe to many dreamy parts of the island. Excursion by ships to sea voyages, etc. In Gager (0.5 km) there is an excursion boat to destinations in the surrounding area. In summer, the highly recommended Störtebeker Festival takes place in Ralswiek. For night owls, Binz / Prora and Bergen with several bars and discos are not far away. The many well-developed bike paths allow wonderful bike tours across the island. We rent bicycles and electric bicycles. Fishing and sailing are possible. In Thiessow (5 km) there is a kite and surf school. Horse riding at the riding stable in Alt Reddevitz (5 km). Golf: There are several golf courses in the surrounding area: 18581 Putbus Marienstraße 7, 18574 Karnitz "Schloss Karnitz" and the Golfclub Saßnitz.
