Description

Stay in our social mixed dorm at a top-rated hostel in downtown San Francisco, located right next to the lounge and community spaces. This 8-bed dorm is lively and perfect for meeting other travelers. Your bunk includes a privacy curtain, personal light, outlet, and secure locker. Enjoy shared bathrooms, free breakfast, all-day coffee, and nightly activities. Best for social travelers who want energy, connection, and fun. The space Welcome to ITH San Francisco Pacific Tradewinds Hostel — the smallest hostel in San Francisco, but one with a huge personality. Tucked into Sacramento Street between Chinatown and the Financial District, just steps from the Transamerica Building, this iconic hostel has been bringing travelers together for decades. Our intimate size means it’s easy to meet people fast and feel like you’re staying at a friend’s house in downtown SF. We host a global mix of backpackers, solo travelers, Chinatown visitors, tech and AI professionals, and digital nomads who come to San Francisco to work, explore, and connect. We believe hostels are far more than a cheap place to stay — they’re about community, shared experiences, and instant friendships. Our hostel occupies the 3rd–5th floors of the building (stairs only — with jokes along the way!) and offers a cozy common room, work-friendly spaces including a Zoom room, and a fully stocked shared kitchen so you can cook and save money. Clean shared bathrooms are located on each floor. We bring travelers together with daytime recommendations and evening events like karaoke, open mic nights, BBQs, game nights, and pub crawls. Guests enjoy free breakfast, free coffee and tea all day, plus snacks and drinks available on-site. Freebies include: fluffy towels, high-speed Wi-Fi, earplugs, luggage storage on check-in/out day, hairdryers and straighteners, and free boarding-pass printing for your next adventure. Public transportation is plentiful, North Beach bars are stumbling distance away, and the city’s best neighborhoods are right outside your door. As fellow international travelers, this hostel is more than a place to stay — it’s our home. We’re social, personable, and love getting to know our guests. Guest access Guests have 24/7 access to their dorm, the shared bathrooms, the kitchen, and the common area. Please no cooking between midnight and 6am. Other things to note Check in is anytime after 3 PM on the day of your arrival. If you know you are arriving earlier than this, please reach out to us at least a day in advance to see if we can have the room ready earlier for you. Because we are a small hostel with a small staff, our reception is only open from 09:00-20:00. As a traveler's hostel, we welcome those coming to/from San Francisco as temporary tourists. We unfortunately are unable to host residents of the Bay Area. We have multiple listings on Airbnb for the same hostel simply so that we may accept more than one guest at a time. Search "Friendly Hostel with Community" to find them. All of our "Friendly Hostel with Community" listings are for Pacific Tradewinds Hostel and are exactly the same (same hostel, same price, same rooms, etc). Please note that occasionally the Airbnb calendar will show space is available when it is not, due to our calendars not aligning. You can always message us first to ask.
