Description

Just 3 hour's drive from Sydney, Kilfeacle is an off-grid working cattle farm surrounded by forest and with stunning views out to sea. Walk among the cows, feed the chooks, and play with Maggie our super-friendly Labrador! Mollymook and Narrawallee beaches are only 15 minutes drive away. Visit historic Milton, go for a bushwalk on the farm (through rainforest or to the top of the old Potato Patch) or just relax on the verandah. We warmly welcome guests of all nationalities, colours and flavours. The space (UPDATE: road fixed - Kilfeacle is now accessible to two-wheel drives once more!) The cottage was originally a creamery for the dairy farm that was established here in 1860. We added the small kitchen and bathroom as our family of four lived in it while we built our house next door. For sleeping, there is a cosy loft accessible by ladder (see photos) which can sleep up to two adults on a king mattress. Bed linen and towels are supplied. A small kitchen provides most things for everyday cooking, including microwave, dishwasher, fridge and stove, and although there is no oven there is a Weber BBQ outside. We supply a good old stove-top cafetiere for your coffee. The small bathroom has a restored antique claw-foot bath, shower and toilet. A potbelly stove provides heating through winter (wood supplied). The cottage is very well insulated and generally stays warm in winter and cool in summer. It is a special place with breathtaking views and above all, peace and tranquility offered by the forest. Guests will have the cottage to themselves, as well as sole use of the small lawn in front of the cottage, and bushwalking on the property. You are welcome to pick lemons, herbs and flowers from the garden. We are happy to help you plan your stay, welcome you on arrival and provide assistance, but once here you will have privacy. Kilfeacle is surrounded by bush, native birds, our cows and local wildllife. It's just a 15 minute drive to historic Milton, famous for its music culture, boutique shops and cafes (we will happily recommend our favourites!). Mollymook, Narrawallee and Conjola beaches are also very close, with surf lessons, snorkelling and beautiful Narrawallee inlet just great for relaxing in calm waters and standup paddleboarding. The cottage is close to our house, but it has a private outlook over three sides with forest, pasture and ocean outlooks. Guest access Cedar Hills Road has been recently fixed and is now accessible to two-wheel drives again! It is unsealed and a little rough, but if taken slow. Probably not suitable for very low-slung vehicles. Please be aware that the creek on the entrance road (Cedar Hills Road, a council road) may temporarily flood during periods of heavy rain. Guests may be unable to enter or exit the property while heavy rain persists. We will always notify guests if heavy rain is predicted, but unfortunately forecasts are not always accurate and guests must accept this risk upon booking. Other things to note Kilfeacle Farm Cottage is a self-contained sanctuary. We are on stand-alone solar power, so please be aware of your use of electricity and limit use of the microwave and dishwasher to daylight hours. Only use appliances like irons, coffee machines and hairdryers when the sun is shining strongly, because these appliances consume a lot of energy. Kilfeacle Farm is powered entirely by solar power, and not just the domestic things - we have a solar pump that pumps spring water for the cattle up to the tanks on the hill, and the electric fences run on solar power. We use rainwater and try to run the farm and cottage, and our own household, as sustainably as possible. All kitchen scraps are recycled into the chook house, where the chooks compost and turn them over, making rich compost that eventually goes back on the garden (helped along by a little seaweed).
