From the garden, a private pathway leads towards the village of Thornton-le-Dale, with its beautiful cottages with country gardens and a babbling brook running alongside the street. Within a short walk from the cottage, the highly picturesque village is centred on a tiny triangular green with its market cross and stocks, and an interesting selection of shops, inns and tearooms. The North York Moors and Dalby Forest provide fantastic opportunities for walking, cycling, nature watching and stargazing. The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway runs from Pickering, which travels through stunning scenery to the fishing port of Whitby. Family fun can be found at Flamingo Land and Go Ape Treetop Adventure in the Dalby Forest. Robin Hood’s Bay, Scarborough and the Yorkshire Wolds are all within a 30-minute drive.
