WHAT TO SEE For those who frequent the sea of Cilento, in the south of Campania, Marina di Camerota is one of the best known locations. Beautiful sea, between the top towns in the region and the Tyrrhenian Sea, according to Legambiente, much appreciated by tourists for the beautiful beaches flanked by submerged towers and caves. The UPPER TOWN of Camerota, which is located in the hillside, 7 km from the sea and the Marina, is worth a visit for its perched, panoramic position and for the medieval castle (the subject of restoration) in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III. The building is small in size and is dominated by the Norman tower, 16.50 meters high and built in the 12th century. In the inner courtyard there is a stage that often hosts shows and concerts in the high season. The SECRET SEA Cale and coves are numerous, in the territory of Marina di Camerota. Cala degli Infreschi was “the most beautiful beach in Italy in 2014”. Even today, this little cove is a jewel, to be appreciated especially during less crowded times of June and September. Another "hidden" beach in Camerota is Calanca Beach, which is also a few minutes' walk from the village center: it is accessed through a staircase that ends on the only stretch of free beach, wonderful. The most beautiful way to discover the shores of Camerota is from the sea, with a boat excursion through bays, hidden coves and nooks accessible only by sea, such as the Grotto of the Lovers or the Grotta del Pozzallo. In Marina di Camerota it is almost impossible to get bored, in fact summer offers a kaleidoscope of events, demonstrations and celebrations that can fascinate everyone who visits this beautiful tourist town. The most popular event is the Feast of St. Dominic, the patron saint of the city, which takes place in August. On this occasion, the village is full of markets and concerts, and the evening culminates with a magnificent fireworks show by the sea. Also in August, the Feast of San Lazzaro, a courtyard of fishermen's boats, is held at the church of the same name near the magnificent natural port of Frescoes. The celebrations begin with the departure of the boats from the Marina di Camerota and end with the characteristic procession of boats and the blessing of the sea and boats. Don't miss the "Carnival of the Cilento", where for the occasion Palinuro and Marina di Camerota are dressed up and parade in their allegorical wagons, making imaginative shows and choreography on the streets of Marina to the port, where the winner's announcement is held.
