Estate Carriage House with Historic Charm & Beauty
Estate Carriage House with Historic Charm and Beauty
An intimate guest house with a sedate, sophisticated style. This historic home was built as an extension of the exquisite 1921 estate, Van Buren House, and shares with its sister home both a unique architecture and indefinable charm. A refined green, blue, and teal palette creates an atmosphere of calm. The home's aesthetic is mature and refined, and yet furnishings, fixtures, and wall art have a definite fashion-forwardness. Altogether elegant. Van Buren Carriage House shares with its sister home, Van Buren House, a historic charm. Outside, the home’s beautiful exterior paint colors—and presence alongside the estate home—create an enchanting impression. Hand-carved shutters adorn windows, giving the home a certain storybook charm, reminiscent of a chalet. On entering, guests are welcomed into an elegant living area with lofty, cathedral ceilings and ornate, hand-carved woodwork. Sedate shades of blue, green, and teal create an atmosphere of calm. This subtle palette evokes something of the English countryside, a feeling emphasized by the home's unique architecture, stately furnishings, and artisanal, hand-carved details. Although intimate in size, the space exudes maturity and refinement. Discerning eyes will notice artisan finishes and fixtures, from the hand-carved mantel and cabinetry details to the marble fireplace. Velvet drapes, quality furniture, and gorgeous architecture create a mature aesthetic. And yet the home has an undeniably fashion-forward character; rattan fixtures and furnishings, couture colors, and elegant accessories speak to its style. Not only colors but textures are layered opulently, with accessories in plush textiles like sherpa, velvet, and alpaca. Although intimate in size, each corner of this home has been thoughtfully considered and beautifully cared for. Beyond its visual beauty, we hope it gives off a more intangible air of welcome, peace, and grace. The generous living space flows effortlessly to the kitchen and dining area. A dining bench is ideal for evening meals or daytime study, the perfect little nook, complete with a woven pendant light. Throughout the home, certain repeated motifs like arched doorways and sapphire, pearlescent paint and trim create soothing continuity. Both bedrooms are styled with lovely bedding, monogrammed pillows, and fine blankets. The bathroom is beautifully tiled and features a handmade vanity, decorative mirrors, and always a surprising touch or décor moment. We hope our guests feel cared for with extra amenities, lovely toiletries, and little gestures of welcome. Carry your experience outdoors, to a covered patio and dining area, with chaise lounge chairs, a table for alfresco dinners, and a spa to relax in. Bistro lights add ambiance, inviting guests to enjoy the ideal outdoor evening. This home has that intangible something-- a charm that only a century-old home can have, and some more inexpressible air of grace. We hope your stay with us is elegant, seamless, and inviting. We want you to feel comfortable but cared for! We respect your privacy but will be attentive to your needs. We strive for a hosting style that is discreet but communicative. Centrally located, convenient to downtown dining & entertainment, with nearby museum, theater, and college. We devote extra care to this property and go to great measures to ensure that everything is sanitized and thoroughly cleaned. We hope that this vigilance is reflected in a clean, welcoming space that is a delight to experience. Following each guest stay, we drain the hot tub, add fresh water, and follow a chemical regime to ensure clean and sparkling water.
