Set within 14 acres, Heathfield Estate in Bransgore has a distinctly rural setting yet is within easy reach of both city and coast. The New Forest National Park is one of the largest remaining forests in England. The forest was created by William I in about 1079 for the royal hunt. At that time they hunted the deer that still live in the forest. They are shy creatures but you might be lucky enough to spot one around Heathfield. Wild ponies and donkeys roam the open heath in the New Forest area. The ponies are one of our best-loved native breeds, it is their grazing that maintains the open character of the forest. The New Forest is famous for its ancient trees. You can see beech trees that are 400 years old, oaks that are 800 years old, and even some yew trees that are said to be 1000 years old, that were here when William I and his descendants used the forest for hunting. For larger groups, take a look at Magnolia Cottage sleeping four guests, which can be booked separately or together with the Coach House. Heathfield Estate is also committed to reducing its environmental impact and promoting sustainability. The estate uses solar panels, well water harvesting, and biomass heating to generate much of its own electricity, heat and water. The estate also provides guests with a locally sourced complimentary food hamper (filled with essentials like milk, bread, butter, eggs, juice, wine and more) and toiletries, as well as recycling facilities. The estate encourages guests to explore the New Forest by foot, bike, or horse, and can store guest's bicycles in a locked building during their stay. Immerse yourself in the epitome of luxury and tranquility at Heathfield Estate, where every detail is crafted to ensure a memorable and enjoyable eco-friendly luxury stay. Over the years there have been very few owners of the Estate; everyone who lived here tended to stay. The most notable owner was Lady Bingham, wife of Major-General Sir George Ridout Bingham (who served as the commanding military officer on St. Helena from 1815 until 1819 during Napoleon Bonaparte’s initial incarceration on the island). In April 1876, Queen Victoria’s eldest granddaughter, Princess Charlotte of Prussia, came to stay at Heathfield House. The estate was also home to airmen during the Second World War whilst a military aerodrome was set up at Holmsley to the west of the estate. One of these airmen eventually bought the estate when the war was over. Heathfield also housed war heroes – carrier pigeons. These birds went on to save many lives during the war, some even winning the coveted Dickin award!
