Lowside Barn is 5miles from Ullswater, in the idyllic conservation area of Helton, with a view across the Lowther Valley, garden and many scenic walks from the house. Sleeping a max of 5 adults plus 1 child, all you need is provided. We take extra care for you to enjoy a relaxing home from home, so we clean the barn ourselves at no extra charge. Living next door we’re also on hand with helpful local knowledge and to answer any questions. The space Lowside Barn dated 1687, is located next to our home in the pretty hamlet of Helton, in the quiet NE corner of the Lake District, half way between Ullswater (5miles) and Haweswater (6m), within easy reach of the M6 (15mins) and an ideal base for exploring the rest of the Lake District. We provide everything you need to make it a really cosy, well equipped home from home in a Lakeland country style. Upstairs you'll find the bedrooms ready for a wonderful night's sleep with high quality mattresses, soft goose down duvets and pillows, Egyptian cotton bedding and towels. The stylish master bedroom has a king-size bed and ensuite bathroom with over-bath shower, basin and toilet. The pretty double bedroom has its own washbasin and beautiful views across the garden and Lowther Valley. The small third bedroom has bunk beds, accommodating 2 children/teens or 1 adult only. Note we only accept a maximum of 5 adults plus 1 child as the bunk beds are not suitable for 2 adults. Downstairs is the 2nd bathroom with large walk-in shower, toilet and basin. The cosy beamed living room has a log burner laid ready to light, large comfy sofa and dining area. There's an initial supply of logs, with more available on request at £10 a basket. The fully equipped kitchen has a fridge-freezer, cooker and microwave. Full central heating and on-demand hot water. We enjoy fabulous unspoiled views to the east across the valley, with an extra treat of amazing sunrises. There are many beautiful walks straight from the house: over the fell above our village to explore ancient standing stones, a stone circle and spectacular views over Ullswater and the mountains beyond; along the River Lowther below the house to get to Askham (with a great pub and excellent village shop) or to Lowther Castle (where there's an amazing adventure playground, cafe and Dan Pearson garden). Guest access Outside, guests have full use of our lawned garden, with large gas barbecue (gas provided) and garden furniture to relax and enjoy the stunning views across the open countryside. There's plenty of parking space in our courtyard for 2/3 cars. Guests with mobility issues, do please note that although there is a shower room and toilet downstairs, all the bedrooms are upstairs. There are also 2 small steps up to the front door. Other things to note There's a detailed information folder, but the main points to note are: The property has a private septic tank so you can't flush anything down the toilets other than loo paper! We request you don't wear outdoor shoes in the house. The heating timer is in our house, so let us know if you'd like us to alter the times. You control temperature with the wall thermostat outside the main bedroom. Hot water is constant, please open bathroom windows after each shower/bath, to clear condensation and prevent mildew. Rural Wi-fi speed is variable but we have a booster, it’s usually good enough to stream a movie or be able to work from here. Its efficiency does depend on the number of people using it! Before you leave, we request you do the following before your 10am checkout, please: 1 Strip used beds in sets, each inside its own duvet cover. Open bathroom/bedroom windows. 2 Leave used towels and tea-towels on kitchen floor. 3 Empty bedroom, bathroom and kitchen bins into the outside dustbin by the parking area.
