Nestled in the woodlands of forgotten France, where deer, pheasants and boar still roam free, set in two acres of land, La Grange de Chatelus is a huge 430 sqm converted barn. The barn is over a century old with tumbling grapes and fig trees covering the granite stones. Set over three floors you will find everything you need for the perfect getaway. Here you will have the chance to rediscover what life is really all about. On the entrance level you will find a spacious reception area and a sun-filled games room with a full-size table tennis table, dart board, games consoles, satellite TV and log burner. Double doors opening out onto the front gardens where you will find an ancient walnut tree and plenty of shade to read, rest or play. Also on this entrance level you will find a fully equipped laundry room with washing machine, tumble drier and plenty of space to air those swimming costumes and towels. Stairs from the entrance hall lead up into the impressive lounge area, which includes a pool table, black baby grand piano, chess/card playing table, 3 large (4 seater) sofas and a log burner. Here, large double patio doors open out onto a lawned area to the back. From here the woodland path weaves it's way through the Douglas fir trees, providing welcome shade from the summer heat. On this level you will be able to dine with friends and family on the bespoke banqueting table in the large kitchen/diner or snuggle down to watch a movie in the cosy cinema/library room. A door from the kitchen leads you into the perfect family suite. With a beautiful sleigh Boori cot bed/sofa, bunk beds, super-king zip and link bed, ensuite with roll-top bath, and large log burner, this is the largest and most versatile of the six bedrooms. The stairs from the lounge lead up to 5 more ensuite bedrooms. The master suite also has a large walk-in wardrobe, sofa bed with trundle, plus a comfy single chair. Each of the bedrooms has a large, comfortable zip and link super-king bed so they can be set up as twins or double rooms at your request. All of the bedding is made from 100% pure Egyptian cotton and the towels are large, soft and fluffy! The water in this hamlet is sourced from a nearby well (a fresh water spring) and is therefore safe, pure and delicious to drink! By the pool there is a large dining area, rattan sun beds with umbrella shade, a sofa area as well as a couple of bistro tables dotted around. You'll have to be very quiet or take an early morning or afternoon stroll along one of the many woodland walks, if you would like to spot the deer or many birds that fill these beautiful woods. You will often hear the the cries of the spectacular red kites as they circle overhead with their huge 6 foot wing span. Hear the rustling and loud cackle of the pheasants as the they wander through the undergrowth near the barn. La Grange de Chatelus is situated in the Natura 2000 protected wildlife sanctuary. There are protected bats and wild orchids nearby as well as otters and other wildlife. La Grange is set in a tranquil hamlet, it is quiet but not too isolated. The small village of Chatelus, which lies on the famous pilgrimage path of the Way of St. James, is a 10 minute stroll away. Here, you will find a little post office and the local bar selling bread and essentials that you may need during your stay. You can order your bread and treat yourself to a nice cold beer in the process. A four minute drive or a fifteen minute, hilly mountain bike ride will find you at Le Thaurion, a pretty, winding river, leading to a great dam. At the river you will find a small beach and supervised bathing in a cordoned off area, with a life guard during the summer season. Relax here with a cool beer, or hire a canoe or pedalo to explore this picturesque river. Dive into the cool waters from the jetty or find a quiet spot down river to sit quietly and fish. Every season here is breathtakingly beautiful. The colours of the trees in the autumn, around the barn and particularly by the river, are quite spectacular. Walk the dogs or take a stroll along the banks to really discover a slower pace of life. Here, deep in the heart of France, find a place to escape the rush of life, slow down and take the time to appreciate the natural beauty of this stunning country. The summers here are warm and hazy, but you'll long for a huge thunderstorm so that you can snuggle inside La Grange with your book, watch one of the many DVDs or play games with loved ones. HISTORY OF THE BARN: In 1850 the barn was started, intended for use on a working farm. According to the neighbour, who is the grandson of the farmer at the time, it took 50 years to finish. In Jan 2003 it was converted into a huge habitable space. The present owners bought the barn in 2015 fulfilling a ten year dream to buy a home France.
