GBF is a working diversified farm at the end of a dirt road in Northern Vermont. We have beautiful gardens, a 200 acre woods (with trails) and many farm animals for you to visit. It is peaceful and quiet here. We have only 2 neighbors and they are family. The cottage is next door to our house and workshop but you will have plenty of privacy. Our cottage is private and quiet. We strive for cozy, rustic elegance with a comfy queen bed and top quality bed and bath linens. We also have a foldout cot available for an extra guest (Like an older child or non- coupled pair ) for an additional charge. We have stocked the kitchen with everything you might need to cook a fine meal. You'll find all the common condiments and necessities and some extras like honey and real maple syrup, quality teas, whole bean Vermont roasted coffee (and grinder), and cream and eggs in the fridge. In season, there are veggies from our garden. You can add to the larder by purchasing pork, beef, or chicken raised here on the farm. Want to eat out? Stowe, with its many fine restaurants, is half an hour down the road. Also there are several good restaurants in Morrisville. And, of course, there are more craft breweries within the area than you can shake a stick at. You can definitely eat and imbibe well here. There are plenty of opportunities for recreation. Hiking (or just walking), paddling, swimming snowshoeing and Alpine/Cross Country sking are close by. Or, if you prefer, just sit on the back porch swing and watch the horses graze. Visit with the many farm animals including ducks, chickens, geese, alpacas, cattle, horses and pigs. At night, you can sit around the fire pit in front of the cottage. If the weather is dreary, there is Roku with all the major channels (including the premium channels) on the bedroom TV. There is also a small but interesting library. Be busy or do nothing. It's up to you. Either way, we welcome you to a quiet, relaxing visit at our farm where the world won't bother you for a while. Mi casa es su casa. We live right next door so we are available to help out anyway we can. We are a large, happy family and often gather together for meals. It is not uncommon for guests to join us around the fire on the front patio at night or even at our table. It is also common for guests to want their privacy. We'll follow your lead. You have you own porch and fire pit. There is no neighborhood. Just us. You can park right next to the cottage. You will need a car to get around. This is a rural area with no public transportation. In winter 4WD, AWD or, at the very least, good snow tires are required for safe travel. Our road is kept well plowed, but if you aren’t experienced with driving on snow, it’s all too easy to slide into a ditch. (We have trucks and a tractor to pull you out, if you do.) Just drive slowly. The pavement ends about 3.5 miles after leaving town. (So does cell service). The next 4.5 miles of gravel road is generally well-graded, but especially during “mud season” and late fall, it can be potholed, muddy or washboarded in places. Nothing a standard 2WD car can't handle in the summer, spring and fall and even most of the time in winter, if you have snow tires. You will be 8 miles from town with only our family for neighbors That's the good news. The bad: we have only spotty cell service (AT&T works best). We do have decent wifi with 2 farm-wide networks and the cottage has a private landline. If you don't like animals, our place is not for you. We have 2 dogs, a cat and a house chicken (Harvey) all of whom are very friendly and are likely to visit you. Also there are three more freely ranging dogs that belong to our family members who live in the other two houses on the property. Additionally, there are lots of farm animals (including roosters who crow in the morning and throughout the day) living across the road and in the fields. If you would like to roam about, bring shoes that can get dirty. Animals make manure. We really are a working farm. There is always something going on around here. The cottage, however, is behind our house with a view of a pasture and away from most of the activities. You are welcome to join in or keep to yourself. Access to the bedroom loft is a steep ladder-like stair like on a boat. A picture is included. We have a shower stall with unlimited hot water, but no flush toilet. Instead we have a "Nature's Head" brand composting toilet. It is orderless and easy to use.
