From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination. Town: Ideally placed for exploring the Lake District and Eden Valley, the attractive, unspoilt rural village of Great Strickland makes an excellent holiday spot. Most of the local amenities for the village are provided by the nearby market town of Penrith and include a good selection of shops and restaurants, a cinema and swimming baths. Great Strickland does have some amenities with an excellent village pub. Just two miles away is the Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre whilst a cruise on one of Ullswater's motor yachts is also worth investigating â these leave hourly from Pooley Bridge, just five miles from Great Strickland. Dalemain Historic House, which was used as a backdrop in a television adaptation of Jane Eyre, is nearby as is the Rheged Discovery Centre, giving visitors a wide selection of holiday activities.
